Is there no answer to this ?? My iphone 4 has been perfect for over 2 years, one charge over night has always been fine.

Since 5.1.1, I charge it over night, then at 1pm, and again in the evening.

With sending maybe 4-5 texts, it will be at 40% by midday.!!

I rang and spoke to Apple who said there are no known issues relating to the update/battery, and suggested a new handset @ £120.

I explained I have replaced the battery and its exactly the same - they werent impressed with that one.

Either way, its clearly the software as nothing else has changed. Now my phone is a pain in the backside, rather than being a joy.

Surely this can be fixed... ?

Yes, there are answers, and they are in the very thread you posted to, as well as dozens of other threads, plus the "More like this" box to the right of your message. All in all, roughly 15,000 or so posts on the subject (that is not an exaggeration). Are you asking someone to repeat again what has been posted that many times?

Thanks for the warming supportive reply to a newbie in the Forum. So kind. xx😍

I'll have a little lookie around then and find the answer one seeks.

Cheers for the help.

FYI... Re iPhone battery issues

Assume this is old news but in case you

had as much trouble finding the solution as I did......Trying to use wifi on iphone with current Netgear routers drains battery at record rate..can't get 8 hours....

Only solution that works for me is turn wifi off. Kind of defeats the purpose but seems to be the situation until Apple decides to fix it.

Ive never been a committed fanboy but do appreciate apple products.. Am getting worried that try are beginning to have problems with complexity... 5.1.1 now crashes often on ipad ( they capture it so no " blue screens" ) and even simple tasks like downloading mail seem to hang at times.. " loading" ...... "updating" ..... Indefinitely.--having The old Microsoft ". Reboot to send" problem.

Hope they get these issues resolved so once again can count on reliability from their products else why pay the premium prices?

None of the so called 'easy' fixes work. I love my iPad 2, but since 5.1,and more so since 5.1.1, the battery drain is AWEFUL. I'm currently typing this with brightness at 40%, location services off, bluetooth off, push off etc ...

Which by the way, is a joke when you think about it, having to disable features you bought the thing for, oh and before the hardcore linkers start linking me to useless threads, I have done the ( insanely long winded) drain, recharge, reset, restotore from backup, restore as new, every which way you can and I'm currently losing power at 10% every 40 minutes.... Browsing the web. That gives me a whopping 6 hours or so usage...

THIS IS AN APPLE FIRMWARE PROBLEM

THIS IS NOT A ROGUE APP MEMORY LEAK (reset as new, nothing installed yet)

THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM BEFORE 5.1/5.1.1

IT JUST WORKS MY A**.

Agreed.

What a joke when you have to turn off every feature that makes it what it is.

Turn off Bluetooth, turn off SIRI, turn off Location Services, turn off Push email, turn off Notifications, turn your screen brightness down so you can barely see it, turn off WIFI when not using, etc.

All you have then is a phone. Unless you choose to turn the phone off too when you're not expecting a call.

I leave every feature ON and I have acceptable battery life, using 5.1.1. But if you truly believe it is not a rogue app and don't look for the problem you will never have acceptable battery life. This problem has occurred on some phones with every version of iOS since 2.1. See, for example, the links below. And in every one of those threads a lot of people were convinced that the problem was they version they had just installed, just like you believe it is unique to 5.1.1. Are they all wrong? Or are you?

I would say they are indeed wrong.!

I am not an Apple Fanboy, but I do like their phones and tablets.

However, it is rediculous that a company of this size deny all knowledge of the battery drain.

My phone worked fine, and I applied NO CHANGES except upgrading the iOS. Then the drain started.

I did perform the weird and wonderful drain down, reset, charge - and it has improved, however not back to how it was before.

I have even removed App's, photos, etc etc to try and reduce memory used.

I refuse to turn off 3G, wifi, etc - what on earth is the point in this ?? I would've purchased an iPod if I didnt want these features.!!!!

My iPad has "asked" for the new iOS for some time now, but I refuse to upgrade it in fear it too will lose its battery life - as per my iphone.

As per *spacetoilet* comments.

To be truthful, no one seems to be right or wrong.

The fact is, this problem is a real one, and it strikes me that its happened to many since the upgrade.

Apple need to stop telling porkies and try to help people with these problems.

Next you will be saying the signal is as good on an iPhone as it is another handset - yet we all know thats not true.😟

Aug 12, 2012 2:00 PM in response to Lawrence Finch

You always shill the company line.

Like I said, I have tried all these so called solutions, if it's not an iOS issue, then why did this all begin after ios 5.1/.1 release?

Before 5.1/.1 I had wonderful battery life. Something is wrong, it wasn't before, this is reset, decharged, recharged, all features off, nothing but default apps..... 10% loss every 40 minutes. FACT

I just recently got my new 4S and after reading this thread I was afraid my new phone suffered from the battery drain problem. It came with 5.1 and was about to upgrade to 5.1.1 but after reading this forum, I decided not to. Went out saturday night with wi-fi on and in less than 5 hours my phone was almost drained. I was afraid I was also victim of the "drain problem". Sunday spent charging my phone twice during the day and was getting really irritaded about this. Today I thought of turning off wi-fi off completely and see what happened. 14 hours have passed since I removed the phone from charging and its still at 68%!! And thats with normal use, check emails, browsing and even some music.

At least in my case it seems that wi-fi is the culprit. I feel that power management in wifi is not yet as top notch as Blackberry. Hope this helps.
