I have been using Logic Pro 8 on my Macbook OSX 10.5.8 Recently I purchased a new Macbook OSX 10.7.3 but cannot install Logic Pro 8 on it. Do I need to purchase a new Logic Pro 9 or can I upgrade my Logic 8 to logic 9 and then install?

Whilst some seem to be having problems with Lion and Moutain Lion OS, the signoficant issue here is that most (if not all) new Macs will NOT run with an OS older than the one it shipped with.

Downgrading to Snow L is not likely to be possible.

As Snow Leopard does not have the drivers )amongst other things) that are required for the new hardware in the latest Macs.. downgrading to SL isn't a practical option without a lot of messing around and 'hacking' and even then stability becomes an issue in most cases...

I have a separate system running Logic 8 under Leopard. Is there not a way to just copy the bare minimum required files from my Leopard system and then install them onto my newer Lion system? I don't need all the Loops and EXS files, I already have them on a separate drive... just the core files.

Anybody know what those core files are and where they are located? I don't care how tedious it is, I don't want to install Snow Leopard via any method if I don't have to.

You can copy just the Logic Pro.app file in Applications.

Note that you will have to reactivate Logic on the new machine so get your key ready. If it fails to start then you will need to replace the ProApps Folder (/Library/Application Support/ProApps) with the one from your SL Mac. This may break compatibility with newer ProApps, specifically FCPX so back up the folder beforehand in case you get FCPX.

Well that sounds easy enough. Heck, I might just install Lion on another drive just so the old ProApp Support file doesn't step on the other's toes. (I do already have Logic Pro 9 installed on the Lion disk.)

Hi. Novice here, trying to put my Logic Pro 8 on my MacBook Air. Did all the steps as outlined in CCTM's post but all i get when i click on the Logic Pro icon in Applications is an immediate message 'Logic Pro Quit Unexpectedly'. There's a long report attached to the message, of which I have little idea about. Adel Blu mentions this:

'found the appropriate start up icon in the logic pro folder'

Is this start up icon 'Logic Pro.app'? Or is there something else I need to be looking for?

I have been tempted to download the app but there are many comments on the download page in the app store saying that Logic has been problematic when downloaded. is the app version exactly the same as the retail disc version? It is a lot cheaper which is appealing but I need to make sure it's going to be reliable too.

You can't downgrade, the lowest version of OSX is the one that comes with your Mac. Older versions do not have the drivers needed to work your hardware so will refuse to install.

The only way to install Jam Packs is by using Pacifist to unpack them. But you can install Logic itself by using this command in Terminal wityh your Logic diskc in the drive:

sudo /usr/sbin/installer -pkg /Volumes/Logic Studio/Installer/LogicStudio.mpkg -target / -verbose

I installed Logic Studio 8 onto a Man Mini with Mountain Lion using Pacifist.

Load Pacifist.

Insert logic Installer disc and let Pacifist run it.

Pacifist will then ask for all the other discs in order Jam Packs, etc.

When al the other installer files are extracted Pacifist will ask for the install disc again.

When the extraction process is complete, work down the installer list from top to bottom and run one installer after another.

Once that install is finished. Download the 8.0.2 update from the Apple website and run it.

I had no problems, and LP 8 works fine.

When I tried this method, Logic alwasy quits unexpectedly. Any suggestion as to why this is and what Ican do to fix it?

I'm not great at deciphering crash reports but more info would be helpful.

The method I described is for an installation, it's not a way to run logic. You have to install the program first.
