Drive Renames ITSELF in CAPS

How are you trying to rename it? Have you tried choosing the drive and "Get Info" (command-i), then turn the disclosure triangle under "name and extension" and enter it?

Its probably formatted as a FAT-32 or FAT-16 drive (for Windows) and Mr. Softie (or whoever made the FAT filesystem) for whatever reason made it so they have to be in all caps. Try reformatting it in Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) to a Mac OS Extended format.

And you are logged in to an admin account? Or, selected the ignore priviliges checkbox?

Ed's right... I have a USB Flash Drive that I needed to be able to use between my Mac and my PC at work, and needed to format it as FAT in order for it to work. When I named the drive during the formatting process, I used a mixed case, but upon formatting, it changed to all uppercase.

If you only need it for your Mac, I would reformat it as Ed suggests - but backup the info on it first! Reformatting will erase everything on it.

That seems likely, Ed. Sorry I didn't see your post before but Discussions was running a bit strangely.
