I had a 10.4 tiger and installed the above printer/scanner - worked fine and to scan just pressed the button - now have lion 10.7 and everything was moved over all all updates installed - printing works just fine but will not start scanning - any ideas? Thank you -

On its web site for Lion compatible Scanner drivers, HP offers the following workaround since they have not yet produced HP based Scan driver software for your older model (I have the same problem):
People who need to SCAN & PRINT without a compatible driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:

Thank you - i did this and got as far as open scanner and got this message - 'photosmart C3100 series quit unexpectedly.' - this also happins when i want to print something but there is a little box to check 'ignore' and once done the process works fine but it does not in the scan mode - tks again and any suggestions are greatly appreciated -
I just found your reply after spending about two days finding same information through HP website. I did have to update drivers by uninstalling and reinstalling, but I am still on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) unable to continue upgrading due to hardware on iMac (see profile).

Does Image Capture see it?
if you mean transfer photos from camera then yes it does - everying works fine but scan will not activate -
