No WiFi after updating to 5.1.1

Ever since updating my iPhone 4s to the new 5.1.1 my home WiFi won't work on my iPhone.

I go to the Airport Utility App and it says that the Internet is not connected but a Windows laptop and Android phone can connect to the network but NOT my iPhone.

I have a new 2TB Time Capsule that I purchased about 2 weeks ago. So when I tried to go online on my phone and it uses the 3G network NOT WiFi, so I thought maybe it was my actual internet so I called Cox Communications (Internet Provider) they reset my modem and then had me reset my TC and still nothing. The COX representative stated that everything looked good on her end. So now that everything except my iPhone is able to connect to the WiFi and Cox saying everything is good, I have come to the conclusion that the problem is my iPhone and the new update to 5.1.1.

After hanging up with with Cox I did "Forget the network" in my phone, restarted by phone and still nothing. I click on my network and it just sits and spins and spins and nothing.

Hello, I have a factory unlocked Iphone 4 and it won't connect to my home wifi network. I have tried turning airport mode on and off, forgetting the network settings, doing a full reset of the phone (to factory defaults), and switched the router channel to "manual" and setting it to the highest (11). The phone's wifi works at work, and elsewhere, but it won't work on the network where i originally updated to ios 5.1.1 "over the air". Ipads, and other iphones work just fine. Help!!

One other thing you can try, and this is what AppleCare tech had me do, is turn off the security on your wifi, and then try to connect with your phone. If it does connect and work, turn the security back on. I also changed my wifi broadcast name and pasword at this time, and vola, it all worked. Hope you have success with this. Good luck.

As noted elsewhere on this tread, I had to resort to restoring my iPhone and setting it up as a new phone to fix the WiFi and 3G access problems that I was having after the 5.1.1 update. Doing all of that is pretty awful by the way, kind of like reformatting (clean reinstalling) Windows XP if you've ever done that. So avoid having to set up as a new phone if there is any way to do it.

I had updated my iPad at the same time as I updated my phone, and I didn't have any trouble with the iPad until yesterday when WiFi access suddenly completely broke. A hard reboot didn't help, so I tried the Airplane Mode on and off trick, and it worked like a charm.

Thanks, ItzFinesse.

Oh, one more thing. The app that I downloaded most recently was Cloak. I don't think that it had anything to do with the problems, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had it on their iOS device.

I´ve updated my 3GS zu 5.1.1 recently and have no problems connecting to my home Wifi, but as soon as i`m somewhere else and try to connect to a wifi there (e.g. starbucks, whole foods, where after selecting the network safari opens and you have to agree to certain conditions), that won´t work.

safari always shows me a broken site where i cannot log in. this is annoying because some apps don´t work with 3G. one site on a browser told me to do something with proxy settings in the browser, but that´s meant for a computer i guess, at least i´ve got no ideas where to find those setting in the iphone menu.

any ideas?

(hope this is in the right thread …)

I am studying abroad in Florence (originally from US) and my phone won't connect to the network or wi-fi here after I did the 5.1.1 update. I am staying with a family here and obviously can't reset their router or take the security off of it. That being said, I also can't call Apple Support because I don't have any network or wi-fi to do so. I basically have a very expensive alarm clock/iPod on my hands right now.
I have Verizon and got my phone unlocked to use internationally and I did do a Network Reset to try and fix the wi fi problem - did that set my phone back to factory settings? Do I need to call Verizon again to unlock my phone?

Shermaam - when you say "unlocked" to you mean that you purchased a new SIM card in Italy and replaced the Verizon SIM card with the Italian one -or- did Verizon modify your account so you could use the Verizon SIM card in Italy (which here in NZ is called International Roaming)

If its the second option then reseting your phone will not modify your account at Verizon. If its the first then yes you might if you have a Verizon modified operating system on your iPhone.

Hope this helps.

My solution to this problem was to enter the enter the WiFi name manually - eventhough it is on the list of available networks! You also have to enter the security-type (WEP, WPA etc). I use WEP. And then I entered the password when prompted.

I noticed that the router didn't recognize the iPhone (or maybe it is the other way around) eventhough I had tried to reserve the IP-address to the iPhone MAC-address. That was why I tried the above solution - and it works fine for me 🙂

I bought the IPhone 4S in PAris and yesterday presented to my dad. First run was good and Wi-fi connection performed well. But today he decided to change the sim-card and registered personal Apple ID. After the activation and updating to 5.1.1 the Wi-Fi settings started shown in grey color and doesn't work. It is not active now and doen't scan any networks.

Maybe somebody has already faced with such problem? Any ideas? I'm so sad as the gift dissapoining....😢

Your support is really appiciated.

It is never the router. All other Macs, iPhones, etc. work just fine (that is, they function as expected under all ordinary circumstances and do not require special attention to access the internet via a home network; typically, this means that, upon turning on the device, the device automatically connects to the internet via my home network). It is the OS. There needs to be an easy, obvious fixt that does not involve putting any other device (like the network router) at risk of some sort of damage, or otherwise interrupting the usage of by other devices (i.e., other macs) that are working (see defininition of "working" above) that work just fine. This is an awful situation; wife just got iPad and it does not work as expected (pertaining to connecting via wi-fi - this is a wi-fi only iPad2). What a shame. Will likely return and not repurchase.
