I can confirm that the 267.png file is the one that need to be edited. Extract the files from SArtFile.bin. Edit the 267.png when saving make sure you don't flatten the image. Re-encode the SArtFile.bin and using the tool from macthemes.net.

Place the SArtFile.bin back in it's original location /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreUI.framework/Versions/A/Resources/

Reboot and you should see the custom Login Window Background.

Sorry to hear that. I must admit I simply changed the 267.png to reflect our Institutes colour and kept the size and resolution the same.

When I first tried it was scrambled until I created a new file (in Photoshop) with a blank background and the coloured layer on top. I saved the file as a .png, keeping the layers, and the image was no longer scrambled. There must be another file which tells this image to be tiled.

I'm happy with what I have so I'll leave that to someone else!

I think you are completely wrapped up in your own tiny perspective. Please be aware that there are administrators responsible for thousands and thousands of machines. We're not just talking about "I can't change my login screen" here. It effects many more people than appears to you.

Keep an open mind when you are here, and try to be supportive in your responses. "I'd" appreciate it. 🙂

Yep. That solution is working on my machine. I'm somewhat relieved, as I feared they might be reading the background image from the rescue partition. No. That is not a hint, Apple. 😉

It should be noted that the ReadMe for the SArtFileTool has the final conversion step as:

5. ./sartfiletool artfiles SArtFile.bin SArtFile.new.bin

It should be:

5. ./sartfiletool -e artfiles SArtFile.bin SArtFile.new.bin

At least that's the case on my machine...
