how long should it take to charge an iPad 3

Hi, I have an Ipad3 with wifi and 4gs. Does anyone know how long it is supposed to take to charge the battery? Mine takes several hours.

From no charge it should take 5.5-6 hours.

That of course depends on where you start from. Several hours from near zero is about right.

Thanks so much - really grateful - it is taking about 5 + hours to fully charge and the charger is getting a bit hot - which is usual - I believe.
