I had installed Kies for Galaxy SII so I could tether using USB Cable. But this isn't available for OS x so I found out later (WiFi tether works o.k.). So when I connected to the Ethernet cable......... nothing at all.

(new to Mac stuff by the way).

After reading a couple of different options this is what I did to get it to work.

1. Uninstall Kies

2. Restart Macbook Air

3. Bring up System Preferences / Network. The Location displayed a Location with a date and I tried to create new location and Usb Ethernet definition but I couldn't. Only WiFI and Bluetooth options available.

4. Changed location to Automatic and then original USB Ethernet and 3 Samsung definitions displayed.

5. Deleted 3 Samsung definitions

6. Restarted with Adapter in but no ethernet cable.

7 After a minute plugged in ethernet cable.

8. No signal detected from router, back to usb defintion and renewed DHCP lease.. that kick started it into life!!!
