Leaving my macbook turned off?

I am going to be living in another country for a few years, I don't want to take my macbook, will it be ruined it if I leave it off for a few years? I've read in different places that you either need to let the battery drain, or that you need to leave it half full in order to store it for long periods of time. Are either of these correct?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I agree with your assesment.

The forum as a discussion medium does not lend itself to finely nuanced conversations. You cannot see the other person's face or read their expression.

High-powered people sometimes have a tendancy to be abrupt, and to tell you their opinions forcefully. But as long as you are not seeing character assasination (e.g., "you jerk") there have been no personal attacks that I could detect. Only strong opinions.
