how to fix Missing Personal Hotspot after ios 5.1.1. upgrade

Had the same problem. For some reason the update shuts the hotspot app off. I went back into the Settings app then under General had to turn the hotspot back on.

My personal hotspot option cannot be turned on at all as the option is not there totally. I already tried resetting the network settings and rebooting but it is still not there 😟 Can anyone advice?

I assume that it is the new iPad that you've got, and does your carrier support personal hotspot on the iPad (even if they support it on the iPhone they don't necessarily support it on the iPad) ? Have you checked to see if there are any carrier updates available: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1970 ?

Sorry for not specifying earlier. I am using iPhone 4s and not iPad. I tried the solutions given via google that is:

1) Reset the network settings and reboot

2) Rebooting with the wifi disabled.

But still to no avail. The personal hotspot option is no where to be found.

I also have no option to set the APN as I also cannot find this anywhere. (Also not found in Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data)

At the Cellular Data, I only have option to Off or ON and no other settings. 😟

Same problem here. Brand new iPad 4G. Personal Hotspot as category completely missing from the Settings menu. Carrier (LMT, Latvia) denies any wrongdoing and points a finger at Apple saying there is a bug in IOS 5.1.1. If crucial try to revert back to 5.1. Otherwise let's hope new os update will resolve issue.

I found this happend to my ipad 1 and nothing seemed to resolve the problem......But I found a way around this quite easy: 1. Turn on personal hotspot on your iphone or what ever phone you may have that has this feature. 2. turn on bluetooth on your phone and your ipad. 3. search devices on your ipad and find your phone through the bluetooth feature. 4. now connect the 2 devices and your phone will start to flash "personal hotspot connection"

Your ipad infact does not even need a personal hotspot icon anymore to connect to your phone, its all done through bluetooth anyway. The only downside is that you will not be able to connect the 2 devices via wifi which you could do after 5.1.1 update , but at least you can still tether your 2 devices and enjoy internet on your ipad without needing a 3G sim version of ipad. Hope this helped

Using the Personal HotSpot on the iPad is to share it's internet connection with other devices. It has nothing to do with receiving a Wifi internet connection on the iPad.
