BRIGHT Red Dot (stuck pixel) on screen!

Hello there~

I have had an iMac G5 2.1 ghz(latest 20" PPC iMac)-- and since the day I got it, it always had this BRIGHT red dot right in the middle of the screen.

I have been told by many people that it is a STUCK pixel, not a DEAD pixel.

I've tried methods such as: Massaging the dot with a 'damp' rag, applying pressure on/around the red dot, and going to a 'stuck pixel fix' website, which flashes colors really, really fast.

None of the above have worked, and Apple (i'm sure) wouldn't waste their time to fix it. I mean, it would be around the same 'type' of situation as a dead pixel, "If we repaired every screen that had one pixel not viewable, we would be fixing thousands of these a day".

The only difference is, I have a couple of dead pixels on my imac, but they're barely even noticable; I didn't even know they were there until I went looking for other ones. Regaurdless-- My iMac has this ugly annoying bright red dot, that is EXTREMELY noticable when using ANYTHING with a dark background, and makes everything look bad; note: front row, night photos, my wallpaper, world of warcraft.

All in all, it is the most noticable problem with my iMac, and it drives me CRAZY. (along side the fan buzzing /sigh)

Does anyone have any other ideas other than what i've done so far? Or do you think calling Apple and explaining that I have a STUCK pixel (not dead), they would try to repair it?

Hello and welcome to the discussions!

It sounds like you have followed what most of us would do with a stuck pixel. Unfortunately, Apple can't do anything to repair it. The only thing they could do is replace the panel, but that is honestly quite unlikely. One stuck or dead pixel isn't enough for them to replace the whole panel. Sorry.

Yes, it stinks, but it is an unfortunate fact of the current state of the technology that there will be stuck or dead pixels on an LCD monitor.

I guess there is no harm in asking Apple, but don't get your hopes up.

Well, What if I call up with a series of problems?

Note:

Sound problems (could be OS related, but I don't think so)
--- My sound, is constantly messed up. A lot of the time, sound won't come out of an application, or it just works when it wants. Most of the time, iChat has no sound. Also-- When switching the volume higher or lower, a lot of the time, if you just touch volume, it just starts skipping, and gradually increasing the volume so loud that it hurts my ears; then after 5-10 seconds, it goes right back to normal.

Fan problems(?)
--- You know the little itty bitty fan in the back of the iMac G5(isight)? Well, it makes a horrible buzzing/humming noise, and it is so annoying. You can hear it over light music, and I can't leave the computer on when I go to sleep, like I could with my iMac G4.

Bluetooth problems(?)
--- Whenever I start up my computer, I have to reset my bluetooth things (like, my mouse, and keyboard). I also, typically in the middle of usage, experience 'bluetooth blackouts'(?). It's terribly inconvieniencing, especially during gaming (World of Warcraft, to be specific); Going through a dungeon, and your mouse and keyboard randomly stop responding. Sigh.

Also, I'm sure this is normal, but my computer also gets EXTREMELY hot. Like, if you leave your hand on the top left of the screen/unit, you would be uncomfortable. Also with sitting in front of it, you can feel the heat beat down on you. I took into consideration that i DID get a 20" screen, so I never took the hotness level seriously. But it's still annoying too. 😟

All in all, I don't think I've ever had such issues with a mac before. I have Applecare, and a local apple store (which I purchased it from).

What should I do?
