I think it's because you are using I-cloud back-up. I switched mine off and was able to DL all photos (only photos that were taken after I switched it off). Otherwise you need to get them from iCloud.com. Go to settings, icloud, photos, then choose download and keep originals (vs optimize iPhone storage). Pain to get them from iCloud but moving forward you can download them easily.

It was a rather stupid thing which i noticed quite late. i tried changing cables, bluetooth off etc didn't work for me. Then i noticed a small lock icon in the folder i was importing the images to. i had by mistake locked the folder. Hence the app was unable to write to the folder. Removed the lock and it worked like a charm. Maybe thats why it worked for a user when he changed location to desktop.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, when I connect my iPod Touch 4g to my Mac via USB Dock cable, the iPod would sync to iTunes and iPhoto would show it attached, but showed (0) photos even though there were hundreds on my camera roll. After reading all the discussions about folks who got it to work by using a different dock/sync cable, I started fiddling with my cable. Unplugging and replugging the Dock cable (30 Pin) side from the iPod Touch itself did not help so I reached around behind my iMac and unplugged the USB side of my dock cable counted to 10 and then plugged it back in. Bingo! The iPod Touch now shows up with all the photos and movies visible in iPhoto and I was able to import them. I hope this helps someone else with the same issue.

This may be really late but look in applications for Image Capture. This solved my problem. I had 3082 pictures/movies. 1 was giving me a problem. But iPhoto '09 couldn't tell me which one.

Image Capture (I might add, built-in app) skipped the broken one and imported everything else. Also put it right into my iPhoto Library (that's a choice).

Thanks apple for having some really good software.
