Are i5 and i7 logic boards in the 27" imacs the same? i
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
Perhaps the best news to come out of Intel's new line of i5 and i7 processors is introduction of a single socket for all Sandy Bridge Core i3/i5/i7 processors...
For now, however, the Sandy Bridge processors all use the LGA 1155 socket. In case you're wondering, this socket is not backwards compatible with previous LGA1156 processors - don't try it unless you like junking your hardware.

Great thank you!
So why the difrent part numbers on the logic boards?
Great news, thanks! 🙂
I was trying to find out that, but can only guess about things like SATA, RAM, & other support that I think I read are different on the i5 & i7. Do they have different Video cards/chips in them?
Yes, looks like the CPU from the I7 board will fit the i5 board with out anyproblems.
Question is will the i5 board work in an i7 machine with all other i7 hardware..?
My guess again, if the connections & ports layout is the same, I see no reason why it wouldn't.
Would be great if someone can confirm this.
Im looking for a new logic board for my i7 imac but can only find the i5 boards at a good price.
Hence all the questions..
