Quicktime Pro 7.66 now has Green screen?

Hi,

We just upgraded to LION 10.7.4 and I'm noticing on a few of my Quicktime movies - when paused, the screen turns green? THAT'S never happened before. I'm sure it's an upgrade issue, when I go back to our clone from last week, it doesn't do that!

We use QT Pro 7.66. on a MacBook Pro (about 1 1/2 years old) - always perfect results, but now this?

No big deal, just a little annoying. It only does this on a few of the movies we've exported out of Final Cut Pro. Can't find the pattern?

Anyone else seeing a green screen when paused? I'm lonely out here! 🙂

Thanks,

Larry

I just noticed this myself (and I recently upgraded to 10.7.4). I tried it on several movies of various formats (that I'd made), and they all exhibited the behavior. Since I knew that videos I'd made a while ago didn't have the problem, I started going through old videos systematically. None of the old ones exhibited the behavior. I tried newer and newer ones --- still no problem. Finally, I tried the first one again, and it no longer did it --- it paused and scrubbed just fine. So: INTERMITTENT.

I'm having very similar problem. I get a green screen when I open videos or stop and scan through. However it's seems to be related to H264 video mostly. Has anyone heard of any solution to this problem???

Another problem I've experienced is that if I make an edit to the video and export it, I get a black screen. So the video is not being saved at all...

This is a reply to all the above....We all paid our $30.00 bucks, and now we aren't getting our money's worth. I've bombarded the feedback site with FIX QT PRO 7....IF IT IS NOT FIXED WITH 2 WEEKS I WILL DEMAND A REFUND. You got to hit them in the pocket book. When this first happend with the green screen and grayed out loop, I took it to my local NYC Apple Store..everyone is sympathic, but none can help. Forget calling the 800...My next step is to call corporate sales and speak to them....Remember folks, we are being gypped out of $30.00. And remember this...Apple didn't warn any of us of the consequences on some of the software if we elected to go to 10.7.4.....Complain, complain, complain....www.apple.com/feedback.....go to the QT icon, and let them have it.

I filed a bug report with Apple about this. I also found a work-around for my MacBook Pro: change from the integrated NVIDIA 9400M to the discrete NVIDIA 9600M GT. QuickTime Player 7 then immediately displays all the formerly green-screened movies properly.

If you're like me and have an older MacBook Pro that cannot change cards on-the-fly using stock Mac OS X, I highly recommend using Cody Krieger's gfxCardStatus. It adds that feature, and even for newer MacBook Pro owners it's useful so you can see when apps are triggering a switch from integrated to discrete cards.

Good luck!

OMG!! YOU'RE a genius! Works PERFECTLY!! Every QT movie I have plays perfectly - NOW - when I have the Graphics set to "Integrated Only". If I switch to "Discrete Only" - they FAIL, meaning I see the green screen. Switch back to "Integrated Only" they're perfect again.

Thank you Mike. I don't know how you guys do this! Just curiously, what exactly am I doing by switching? I don't know anything about Graphics cards! My MacBook Pro is about 1 1/2 years old, It's a 2.66Ghz Intel Core 7 with 8 gig RAM. For Final Cut Pro X I changed it's configuration. (You'd be proud of me!) I have a 120gig SSD drive AND moved the 'older' TB drive I swapped to to where the DVD drive is. So I have no DVD but 2 HD in my Mac. (I guess all that is irrelavent, though!)

I didn't even know I have 2 graphics cards in my Mac!

What's the downside to keeping it set to "Integrated Only"? Can I leave it set to that?

Thanks very very much again. These chat boards are just terrific!

Glad it worked for you too!

I'm curious, are you sure it's working for you when in "integrated" mode and not working when in "discrete" mode? You can double-check this by opening System Preferences and going to Energy Save. If "Graphics Card: Better Battery Life" is selected then it's on integrated while if "Higher Performance" is selected then it's on discrete.

It would be very interesting and make less sense to me if our situations are reversed.
