iPhone/iTunes Wifi sync doesn't work

Hi guys,

I don't even have hope to solve this problem anymore but I guess I should post this anyway and show apple the crap software they're giving us.

I'm on Lion 10.7.4 (iTunes 10.6.1) and, after upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1, my Wifi sync with iTunes stopped working. Out of nowhere. Looking for an answer I started digging on apple foruns and found out there are dozens of threads discussing the problem and literally hundreds of possible solutions. I've tried the following:

- Restart iTunes and iPhone (full power cycle).

- Check the "Sync over Wifi" option on iTunes when iPhone is connected using cable

- Uncheck the "Block iPhone, iPod and iPad from automatically sync" on iTunes > preferences > devices.

- Restart Router

- Reinstalling iTunes

- Restore iPhone

- Move to trash "com.apple.iTunes" and "MobileDevices.framework" files. Restart Mac after.

- Make Airport on Mac and iPhone forget the saved networks and reconfig them

- Open ports on router 123 (all), 3689 (TCP) and 5353 (UDP)

- Disable and enable uPnP on router

- Install Remote app

- Use "Release Liase" option on iPhone under Settings > General > Network > Wifi > Blue Arrow

NONE solved it. I gave up. Apple *****.

Interesting behaviours:

- Remote app doesn't work at all. I can't use it under Home Sharing or that code thing. My phone and Mac simple can't see each other anymore.

- iPhone conects fine using cable. Everything is working and, when I pull out the cable, iPhone vanish from the list. Even with the Wifi option enabled.

So, if any of you can solve it, you will have a place in heaven. And in Apple developing team, probably.

Thank you!

There are a number of major bugs. Both in IOS 6 and Mountain Lion. I bought a brand new iMac several months after Mountain Lion was released and I found out the machine I brought home still had Lion on it. The people at the Apple store never said a word. I was lucky to be able to restore my data and some apps from a time machine backup because I never could get the iMac to talk to my old Macbook it was replacing.

Besides the iTunes wifi issue, I have a new AT&T iPhone 5 and 2 4G iPad 3s that all have the personal hotspot feature. The iMac won't recognize the hotspots wireless connection unless I toggle the hotspot off and on. If I had other devices using the hotspot, I would have to dump then to be able to connect from the iMac Is the problem IOS 6 or Mountain Lion? Even this web site is more difficult to use than before.

There's no doubt that Steve Jobs was not running the company for some time before his death and it's beginning to show. The product quality and support are both slipping and like you, I thought about a Galaxy III or the new Note. But my wife got a new Galaxy III.I see it as a big hunk of plastic that has a bunch of apps that are almost as good but not quite there.

Having recently upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, iTunes 11 and iOS 6. I now have similar difficulties synching my iPad and iPhone. Up until now I have been happy to live in Apple's "walled garden" because every thing 'just worked'. I felt a great relief having escaped the world of Windows PC's a couple of years ago (I still run Windows 7 under Parallels), but this upgrade has destroyed my faith in the company. Steve Jobs where are you????😟

Greetings guys,

I'm using IOS 6.0.2 on my IPhone 5, using Windows 7 64 bits and Itunes 11.0.1.12.

I was experiencing the greyd out Sync options from my Iphone's Settings»General»Wi-fi Tiunes Sync. (sorry for the exact path, but since i'm using IOS French version, i'm trying to make a translation for it) And i couldn't see my Iphone from the list in ITunes on my PC. I did the procedure to cable connect it, then selecting from Itunes general settings «Sync over wi-fi with this computer» and blabla, all stuff as most people said here happens... vut inside ITunes «Help» menu, i clicked «Disagnostic tests» (figure1.jpg shows the menu to choose, figure2.jpg shows the 2 options i only selected, and figure3.jpg shows where the missing Iphone in my case, appeard missing and i ended up with the possibilities to read some tips, where i found out this little trick i'll explain, if this tricks doesn't work for you, at least you'll ended up with some more helps options)

What i did is, 1st if my iphone doesn't show up in ITunes, i open the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE), select «task manager», the once in the Task Manager, i click on the «Services» tab, then quit and close Itune, once Itune is quitted, ont he «Services» tab, find «Apple Mobile Device», then RIGHT-CLICK on it, STOP SERVICE, then RE-START SERVICE, once that is done, re-open ITune, then wai a few seconds, and it should now detect, in my case, my IPhone, and since Itunes detects it, on my Iphone meny, Synch is now available... once in a while my IPhone doesn't show in ITunes, so when it happens, i do agian the process of Stoping the Service, and restarting it, repening Itunes.

Hope This works..

I thought I would update you on my situation. Apple recently put out an IOS update, just a few days or so ago. They said it contained bug fixes among other things. I applied this to both my iPad and iPhone and now both of them will sync. wirelessly with iTunes, and at the same time.

Eureka!

Thanks to everyone for their responses, some fixes worked for some and others for others. Would be nice to hear if anyone else is now able to sync. wirelessly since applying the IOS update. I hope if anyone else is still encountering a problem they will keep contributing to this thread as it has helped many.

I will confirm what Highlandfling said....after applying the update this morning, iTunes automatically started syncing with my iPhone 4S and iPad 4 without me having to do anything. I've been messing with this for a while trying all the suggestions in this thread...but after applying the update, all is well. so it seems as if Apple has fixed this issue.

Done years ago. It worked nice until one day. Since last week, I have to connect the devices to the computer everyday. I have to check/uncheck the box (blabla wifi) everyday.

Maybe the problem appears with the last update of itunes, or ios 6.0.2, not sure, because I didn't sync these day, due to a lack of time.

So, or the wifi mean "with wire", or there is a problem.

PS: Wifi network is not the cause.
