Something that just worked for me was taking a strip of KT tape and attaching the fabric side of that to an index card. I then peeled off about an inch of the protective paper to reveal the sticky side of the tape and slid the card into the disc drive making sure to get the card with the tape on top of the discs. KT tape being outrageously sticky only had to get a corner on the top disc and it pulled right out with the card. I then did the same with the other disc and now the drive works fine! Best of luck!

You've already tried the eject button on the keyboard and rebooting holding the mouse key down. So if the system won't eject any on it's own, do you have a pick tool, like a dentist might use, to reach in the slot and try to roll out one of them? Unless you have the suction cups, and want to open up the iMac, may be time to take it to the store and let the tech there open it up and get the disks out. See this to see what's involved: http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel

Unless you can pry them out without causing damage, it's a trip to either the genius bar at your local Apple Store, a call in to your local Apple Service centre or send the Mac in to Apple for a chargeable repair 😟

You could try lying your iMac face down (on something dust free and soft so as not to damage the screen etc: gravity might help get one of the discs into an ejectable position) then start the iMac and hold down the left click on your mouse. This should force eject a disc, but it might not cope with 2 discs jammed in there.

It could be worth a try.

I hope you get it sorted

Did both go in at the very same time? Usually when one disc is already in the drive a tiny shutter should drop into place to block the second one from going in. If the two discs went in together then you probably will need to take the iMac into a service provider so that they can remove the optical drive, then removal the several tiny screws holding the optical drive's metal top cover in place so that the DVD's can then be manually removed. I don't think you can use the normal eject cycle to remove two stuck DVD's.

Here is a solution to this same problem that just worked for me. Cut a 1" x 6" strip from a laminated and/or plastic placemat (the kind you use under the plates of little kids). The material should be thinner than a credit card and thicker (also more firm) than a piece of paper. Slide the strip into the CD slot and then restart the iMac. When you hear the whirring sound that indicates that your iMac is trying to eject a disc, begin sliding the strip gently back and forth. The idea is to move one or both of the discs in sync with the iMac's eject mechanism, giving it a little bit of extra traction. This just worked for me after a number of other solutions -- trying to eject along with credit card, with vacuuming, with turning the iMac on its side -- all failed.

Amazing!

This worked so well. I used plastic projection paper & a small piece of double sided tape, slipped it in, activated eject by restarting and it came straight out! And the drive works fine.

I'm so glad as i took the laptop into the Mac store today, where they looked at it and quoted me £118 to fix it!!

Hahaha Thanks to everybody on this page! 🙂

THIS IS AN EASY FIX!!!!

I had three discs stuck mine (my two year old...) and this worked perfectly.

Two Disc's Struck in Drive-

The simple easy solution is to get Two normal playing carda and wrap them tightly in regular packaging tape.

Then gently wiggle the cards into the disc drive until you get about half of the card in. Then Pull it out and your disc will come out with it. If it does work on the first try, try multiple times.

If you have three discs stuck in there, you can just start with one normal playing card and as the discs come out just add more cards.

YOU'RE WELCOME!

Thanks for the tip. I was able to attach a piece of scotch tape along the edge of a credit card, and slide that in over the discs, then use another CD to press the tape down on top of the stuck disc. I ran the /usr/bin/drutil eject line in the terminal, and then pulled gently on the card at the same time, and I was able to remvoe both discs easily. Not exactly the same thing as your suggestion, but the same basic principle.

It worked! I used a large dose of gaffer tape, which may have greased up the insides, but for now it's back to full working order. And to my disbelief THREE of my 3 year olds CDs came out! No wonder it was jammed!

Thanks for the tip 🙂
