Mackeeper, do I need it?

I always thought anti viral products were not required with Apple computers. However, I recently installed MacKeeper thinking it was a Mac product. I now think this was an error on my part. The software seems to have slowed down my system.

Please could someone advise me if my asessment is correct and how I might safely remove this software from my computers? Thanks

Mac Pro, iOS 5.1.1, Also have Apple MacBook Air

As someone who installed the MK demo, I believe I am qualified to call it crap. I knew I had a problem very soon after installing it, as it kept after me to purchase it. Now, I believe in paying for software, but the whole point of a demo is to, I don't know, DEMO the software before I buy it. When I decided I didn't want it, I had many of the same problems removing it as are detailed in previous posts.

It was like trying to flick a booger off your finger, it kept sticking and wouldn't go away! 😁

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with the majority on this one. It's crap.

Steve,

Your childish response says enough about you...what are you, 15? I'm not trying to defend it at all...I am trying to qualify the validity of this community since I have always opted for "professional" opinions versus the "average joe" like yourself. I work in the tech field (at Intel, Santa Clara, CA) so I am very critical of ignorant end-users and I'm trying to understand where the consistent negative feedback is coming from since I have experienced nothing but good things from the product. You don't value my input because I'm objective and actually have had good experience with the product? If you look at my previous reply to another person you'll see that I acknowledge their negative experience and do not pass it off as not important at all. Look in the mirror.

I don't believe a word of this, I believe you work for Zeobit and are here scamming us.

I'd just like to add to the confusion that I've used MacKeeper for a couple of years on five computers without experiencing any problems at all.

I think most of us would agree that if it does what it promises, its a nice piece of software, with lots of utilities in one place. That's how its been to me/us/our Macs.

If I had read this thread before I decided to purchase the first license, I certainly would have skipped it. Obviously there are other free utilities out there that together (probably - one rarely KNOWS) could do much of the same job. But here everything is in one place (though I don't use all of them).

I believe, that with the tone in these threads its harder for someone with a pleasant story to step forward, than those with negative ones. Maybe even you who read this think I am rather silly believing in this absolutely-no-good-piece-of-****-software. Honestly I believe there are more people with good experiences than this thread indicates.

The interesting question then is why some can have terrible time-consuming experiences while others (like me) only have positives.

And: if there is some other (presumably safer) all-in-one alternative out there.

For the record: - I do not work for Zeobit, I only have a customer relationship to them - English is not my native language - and I probably won't participate in this discussion, if not someone can enlighten us on those two final questions. I've just tried to share some thoughts and experiences.

Good luck to everyone - with or without Mackeeper.

Pretty spot on. I've been using it for four months and it is a good multi-purpose tool to help manage various tasks with my macs. I don't use the anti-virus as I don't feel it's necessary but the other tools work and work very well. Is it a little costly for what it does? Sure...but if money is not an issue, then it is a good multi-purpose tool and certainly does not slow down your mac(s) nor is it malware or a virus as soooooo many people have been reporting. comical.

You're failing to convince that you are not just another Zeobit shill.

Allan - again, have you USED it to know how it impacts your system? NO you have not. How does it do it unsafely? I guess we'll have to agree to disagree but at least I can say I've used it and can give honest feedback whereas you...well, we know that answer.

Allan may not have, but I have tested MacKeeper extensively (for clients), on multiple machines, old and new.

I can say that it is junk, from experience, a lot more more than 4 months worth.

You certainly are putting in a lot of effort to this.

I'm not trying to defend it at all...

You can defend it, or whatever it is you wish to call what you're doing, all you want, but everyone else here will see to it that people do not install this hazardous software. It is our voluntary job to provide tech support on this forum and help Mac users out when they seek help here.
