I always thought anti viral products were not required with Apple computers. However, I recently installed MacKeeper thinking it was a Mac product. I now think this was an error on my part. The software seems to have slowed down my system.
Please could someone advise me if my asessment is correct and how I might safely remove this software from my computers? Thanks

He has actually, not on his own system, but has removed the software from many computers of those he helps and they watched their problems float away.

"Clean My Mac"
"Avast"
"Clamxav"

There seem to be VERY strong feelings on both sides of this discussion, but particularly on the anti-MK side. I note, too, that there have been positive reviews by Mac publications (although most of them seem to be several iterations old). My own experience does not include actually using or installing this program, but I found it advertised on speedtest.net, and discovered that every single link on the MacKeeper page the ad linked to—even what appeared to be links to positive reviews (two of these)—all of them triggered a download, so even though I thought I was investigating the app, the page insisted in downloading it. Whatever the pros or cons of the software, this raised a red flag for me, and I deleted the download at once.
Unethical to say the least. Bunch of scumbags to put it more directly.

I have anyone that calls into AC remove it , if I see it on their computer.
OS X already does 99% of what MacKeeper does.

From your post, I can tell that you know who he is. But for the uninitiated, John Galt is the name of the "hero" of Ann Rynd's novel of bringing down civilization in order that only the strong and the dollar should survive.
I want to know if there is a way I can stop their ads from popping up. They way they do, I had already surmissed it was a virus. But I'm really tired of their ads. Unless that is also a virus? What can I do?
Get one of the adblockers, Adblock plus for Firefox or Google Chrome, Adblock for Safari--although I don't have a lot of experience with that one, since I hardly use Safari.
Mackeeper, do I need it?
