Bitdefender find trojan.generic.7522707

I tried Bitdefender and it found a trojan call "trojan.generic.7522707" in my trash bin. I checked Bitdefenders web site and a search via google but was not able to determine its function. Does anyone have a definition for this Trojan?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Bitfedender, like most good antiviruses, has "generic" signatures on certain trojans, i.e. if it sees a program trying to exploit vulnerabilities in your system and record your passwords, it would be safe to assume it's a trojan, even though it doesn't have a name or a specific description. That's what makes antivirus software powerful: they're able to catch new nasty stuff.

From the name, I would guess it's a Windows trojan that somehow found its way on your Mac (maybe from a spam?), so I wouldn't worry. However, I can't be certain. Just to be on the safe side, please don't try to launch the infected file, it might harm your Mac. If it's still in the trash, just empty your trash and get rid of it - it was suppposed to be deleted anyway, right?

If Bitdefender removed it already, yo're ok. Just run another scan (critical locations or full system scan) to check that you're clean.

Hope that helps,

Vlad

What that is, nobody here can say, unless Vlad is right that it just assigned a number to something it couldn't identify precisely. That is a question the BitDefender folks would need to answer. However, one thing I would like to say is that BitDefender is fairly worthless. I tested it against my Mac malware collection, and it failed to identify about 20% of the items as malware. If you insist on having AV software, use something better.
