iPhone 4S - iTunes Store app freezes when searching for Podcasts

This has me stumped. I have several Apple devices using my iTunes account, but only my iPhone is giving me grief lately.

iPhone 4S

iOS 5.1.1

iTunes Match is ON for music (does not affect podcasts in theory)

Recipe:

  1. Search for podcast I want to download using iTunes store app
  2. Find it and click on name to see episodes
  3. Results screen loads partially, then does nothing. Can see list of episodes, but cannot activate "Download" buttons.
  4. Wait for a few minutes. Wait a lot of minutes. Nothing changes, but network activity indicator is spinning around next to WiFi indicator.
  5. Quit iTunes app
  6. Restart app and it crashes
  7. Lather, rinse, repeat

I usually listen to episodes of the same 5 or 6 podcast series, like most folks. I was able to grab any of them directly from the iPhone before, but in the last few days it simply can't be done.

Clue: I CAN download music. I can pay for it. Just can't get podcasts.

What I've tried:

  • Log out and back in to store
  • Turn iTunes Match off and back on
  • Restart iPhone

No joy. Any ideas before I contact Apple support??

I am having the same issue on iPhone and iPad as well. I can search albums in the iTunes store app but when I click on an album it half the tracks load the other half is greyed out. I cannot preview or purchase and the wheel keeps spinning on top. I have 25k songs in iTunes match. Well more than half is matched the rest is uploaded and purchased. I was on the phone with tech support for over an hour. They tried everything from re-booting my devices, re loading iTunes match to using my back up. Nothing worked it ended with me sending them a video of what happened.

Same issue... two iPhones (4/4s) and one iPad (2). Large library (8k or so), match enabled on one iPhone, not on other/iPad. iTunes store barely usable on all 3 devices right now. In general, on the match enabled phone I feel like use has slowed and I have been experieincing more crashes of native apple apps then ever before.

The theory I am working on (I just need more time to horse around with it) is that a large Music library on the iOS device might be the trigger. iTunes Match might be a red herring, as it has the effect of increasing your library size.

On my iPhone, if I turn iTunes Match OFF then the library is perhaps 500 tracks. If I turn it ON, then I see all 18,000+ tracks that are stored on iCloud. I am wondering if that difference of scale is the issue.

I have 3 iOS devices, I just need more time to configure this and that.

I am in ongoing discussions with Apple Support. So far, nothing interesting.

Having same problem with iPhone 4.

- In iOS iTunes search I leave Marketplace in the search field.

- In the morning I back out of the latest Marketplace podcast to the search page and choose Marketplace Morning Report from the results.

- (Would like iOS iTunes to auto DL these each day when they become available...until then this is what I have to do)

- In the morning I back out of the latest Marketplace podcast to the search page and choose Marketplace Morning Report from the results.

- In the evening Marketplace I back out of the Mrning Rpeort podcast to select Marketplace.

- Some time a week or so ago the listing pages for these podcasts became slow, unresponsive and crash prone.

- Often on the listing page I just get teh back button and nothing happens. In this cercumstance I have to reboot.

- Sometimes the podcasts listing comes in but the Free button background does not render.

- Sometimes iTunes crashes out and I have to start again (When it comes back it usually at the listing page for the previous results.

iTunes is being extremely ungraceful...would expect it to handle these situations better.
