Airport Extreme setup question

I just setup my new Airport Extreme to Create a New Network. There is a box to check that says "Allow setup over WAN".

I checked the box & I have the network working okay, but do not understand what this means & should I have checked ithe box or not?

It is not necessary to allow setup over WAN unless you intend to reconfigure the Extreme from outside your LAN. There may be reasons to do this but if your Extreme is normally accessible to you, leave it un-checked.

You would need the AirPort's device password to configure it over WAN.

Okay, I finally got it to work. Still no software in the Printer list, but I selected OTHER rather than Select Printer Software. I the foung the Driver download & opened it. It then added the Brother Printer.

I wonder what is causing the installed driver software not to be in the list?

Anyhow it is working after a very long setup process.

Thank yopu very much John.

John, just to let you know, after I got my Brother Printer working wireless, I went to my son's office where he just bought a Brothers 2270 printer.

After spending hours on mine & still never finding the Printer software in the Printer list, I set his up & set up 3 computers in about half an hour. No problem on any of his computers finding the software. Still don't know why I have an empty printer list.

Thanks for you help. I was ready to give up until you helped.
