Yahoo mail won't push to my iphone and iPad

As of today, Yahoo mail won't push mail from my Yahoo account to either my iPad or my iPhone. I can open the mail app and manually refresh to get new mail, but mail won't push on it's own. I tried the basic trouble shooting steps of removing my Yahoo account from my iPhone and iPad and re-added and also turning push off and on, neither fixed the problem.

I wanted to see if it was a global problem so I created a dummy Yahoo account and added it to my iPhone and push worked for that account, so I know push is working. Now here's the weird part. When I added the dummy Yahoo account to my iPhone, push started working for my actual account. I repeated this with my iPad and it worked there as well.

Thinking things were fixed I removed the dummy Yahoo account and push stopped working on my real account. I added the dummy account back in and push started working for my real account. So basically I need to have a dummy Yahoo account on devices to get push mail to my real account. The opposite is not true, I can delete my real account and the dummy account will still get push mails. I tried leaving the dummy account on the phone, but turning mail off, but that too causes my mail account to stop receiving push notifications.

It looks like when a Yahoo account is added to an iOS device, a message is sent to Apple's push servers indicated the Yahoo email address that was added. Similarly when an account is removed a message is sent to indicate the email account was removed. That way Apple knows if any Yahoo Mail accounts are on the phone and if there aren't any it won't push. That or it can tell Yahoo that there are accounts on the phone that need push email.

At this point I don't know how to get things working without using my work around. I can tell the iPhone/iPad is sending info to Apple when I add my main Yahoo account to the device, but the push to check for new messages isn't coming in unless I add a different Yahoo account to the devices and turn mail on.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Push access for received email with an email account that supports push access is not done with Apple's push servers on an iOS device - except with an Apple iCloud account. That is done by the email account provider which in this case is Yahoo. Contact Yahoo in regards to a problem with push access with a Yahoo account.

Okay folks,

Riddle me this: I've had 2 different people with yahoo email accounts tell me that they can read email sent from my ipad to their yahoo email (via my aol account) BUT , that ALL email I send to them that has LINKS in it? They can't or have loads of trouble with, the LINKS opening. No matter where the links are: I.E. Huff post, news articles, etc. What causes that pray tell if you know?!? Why would yahoo email accounts have trouble opening links sent from iPad via an aol email account?

Everything had been working fine until yesterday when mail stopped pushing to my iPhone, but still pushed to my iPad. This seems to happen every few months. I normally use the Yahoo Mail iOS temporarily until it gets fixed. The problem is it can take weeks to fix.

I contacted Yahoo and they responded with a few knowledge base articles and finally responded saying it's a known issue that was fixed. Uh, it's not fixed.

I have no idea why it breaks for my iPhone every few months. What's worse is that when it breaks, it breaks for all Yahoo accounts. Mail won't push for any Yahoo Mail account I add to my iPhone. Works on my iPad, but not my iPhone. There's something screwed up with Yahoo looking up info on my iPhone or something and it never tells Apple.

nothing is internal about what i will say. the info i will state was found through yahoo's terms of service a little while back

i have attempted (with intermittent success at times) to set up many of yahoo and yahoo related emails (cox, att) and was so frustrated after a three hours of troubleshooting for the umpteenth time with customer number 1 million that i did actual research (cause calling yahoo for help even at my level of tech support really worked out ha!). about 6 months back or so (give or take a month or so) i went on over to yahoos terms of service and after a nice read i discovered that due to the fact that yahoo gets paid via advtisments and due to the fact ios devices are ad free they are not compatible. there are work arounds such as logging in from a computer once every couple of weeks but even that works intermittently. another way to prove this is if you were to pullthe mobile device list on your yahoo account via a computer...are there any apple devices. no there is not . yahoo does not support apple devices....yes i have had SOME luck with them SOMETIMES but fact is yahoo is a no go in the long run due to how many issues you would inevitably have. No fear though ...after reading this i called and spoke with a senior advisor at yahoo and he stated that purchasing google plus would help.

Had been workin for awhile now on my iPhone 5S and iPad 2. Upgraded to iOS 7.1.2 and about 6 hours later mail stopped pushing to my iPhone. It still pushes to my iPad. It also pushed to my old iPhone 4S when I added my Yahoo account to it. I even tried adding a completely different Yahoo mail account to my iPhone, but that didn't push either. Yahoo is just won't push to my iPhone 5S.

Turned push back on in the stupid Yahoo Mail app as a work around, but it's really annoying that it's not working after having worked for many, many months. I already tried removing my Yahoo account and re-adding it.. That did nothing.

Well something weird is definitely going on. Push had started working on my iPhone 5S July 1st around 9 PM, about 24 hours after it broke. At that same time, it broke on my iPad. 2. About 26 hours later, around 11 PM July 2nd it started working on my iPad 2 again.

On July 3, something bad happened with my iPhone and I needed to do a restore from backup. The last PC backup I made was on July 1st when Yahoo Mail wasn't pushing to my iPhone. After the restore, while the apps were still syncing, I tested push on my iPhone and it worked. That was around 7:20 PM. At 10:15 PM it was not working again. It still isn't.

I'm hoping it's another 24 hour thing and not caused by the restore to when push wasn't working. Though from what I've read, push tokens aren't backed up and neither is mail (mail settings are though). Actually restores are supposed to fix problems like this. It could be a coincidence, but whatever it is, push broke 3 times this week: one on my iPad and twice on my iPhone.

What finally worked for me was going to yahoo on Safari on my ipad and I logged in to my mail there. Yahoo wanted to push me to their yahoo mail app but I don't want the yahoo app- I like having all my email accounts through the native email app on the ipad.

I have 2-step verification in place so once I logged in through Safari on the ipad and Yahoo sent me my verification code. I access my email through Safari (deleted a few) and then I went back to the ipad native email app and my yahoo emails finally loaded.

Good luck- way too much time spent on this today!
