iBook and app comparison

Thought I'd start this thread as a comparison for the success of my book and app. I just had my book approved today and I am expecting the app version to be approved in the next day or two. I thought i'd put some stats up to show how the downloads of each were going for comparison sake.

The book is a childrens books: The Spider Who Had Never Spun a Web

It is a static book, free to download. My app is the exact same story, but also readable on the iphone. It has a more interaction in that you can touch the background and hear the audio as well as recording your own audio. The app will be £0.99. I thought it would be interesting to see how free downloads of the static book on the iBookstore compare with paid downloads of the app on the app store so I will update this thread with results.

its interesting though, my natural portraits book has been featured pretty much since the start. It's on the art and entertainment main section in the UK as well as in Photography on UK and US - yet I don't get a lot of sales at all, maybe 1 or 2 a day if im lucky.

I think the audience of ibook store is very much fiction books - novels, childrens fiction etc. I don't think a lot of people think of it for non fiction books.

24 sales in 1 day got me to number 53 in the rankings under childrens fiction. Yet 1 sale every few days and I'm number 6 in photography.

I think what's going on here is that an entertainment title is much more likely to be bought on impulse than a non-fiction title. For a non-fiction title, people usually won't be interested unless they are actively seeking information on the topic. For entertainment/fiction, people will buy something just because it was recommended, is featured, or looks interesting.
