... i think whoever stole it registered it him/herself.

    What makes you believe this?

Anyone can erase an iOS device and configure it as a new one. Apple does not intervene in thefts.

If you registered the iPod in My Support Profile its serial number will appear there. Only you can un-register it.

Are you sure of that?  I Gave away my iPod touch when I go my iPhone and now the iPod touch does not appear in my profile. I never unregistered the iPod.

    You cannot.

lllaass, once registered to your Apple ID any attempts to register it using a different Apple ID should result in the following:

I suppose that it is possible Apple can un-register it without your consent, but I would imagine they would want conclusive proof that whomever wants to register it is entitled to do so. I wouldn't even know what sort of proof they would consider adequate; certainly if it's stolen there can't be any.

I agree with lllaass, my iPod was stolen last week and now it doesn't show up in My Support Profile.  I never unregistered it either, and my account was not broken into.

im having the same problem too, my ipod was stolen and i really want it back, i cant track it down using icloud because wifi connection is off. i was hoping if i could find it using the serial number, the person who stole my ipod obviously can't change the serial number, if he or she registers it then is there any way to find my ipod using the serial number?

No. The SN will only identify the iPod as yours if it is recovered.

Hi, new to this community.  I would love to start an app or site of serial numbers for stolen items (maybe there is one,let me know), as you know you get an email when the device is registered, should get one when it is de-registered and then if another user tries to register it you be alerted, it could all be self supported seems. The message you get when you try to register could be more detailed, as "this device is registered to another user". My daughters ipod touch was stolen at a soccer tournament this past weekend and like other users we have gone through the motions of locating to no avail.  The ipod is/was locked, but it appears there are ways around this that are clearly posted.  However the serial number is the serial number - you need if for support, you should be able to enter your item as lost or stolen like your credit card.  I would rather have the item in the trash than a thief in possession of it.  Thanks for listening!

I had my ipod stolen too and its sad that apple won't help you search for it but they in fact do have tracking devices instead of them being scared to help search for your ipod they rather get your information about your location if you know what I mean

okay I found out you have an ipod that has a device id if you watched netflix or crunchyroll you can call them and they will help you I asked if someone used my ipod with that device they couldn't do much they said but they atleast did their best so if you have apps that use your credit card info call them they will do much better then apple ever could they don't even try to help you all they say is use find my iphone and if they erase your data thats it then they hang up
