iTunes won't recognise my iPod Nano 6th Generation. Please Help?

Today I tried syncing some new songs to my iPod Nano 6th Generation, but it wouldn't even be recognised by iTunes. This has only happened today, as yesterday it was syncing just fine. I have followed the online troubleshooters, doing exactly as they said and I have tested every USB port on my laptop and with each one of them it didn't work. When I plug the USB cable in however, it makes the sound it usually does, it just doesn't show on My Computer or iTunes. I went onto my Devices and Printers and my iPod hasn't shown up there, however there is an unspecified device. It says 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver'. It says that it needs trouble-shooting, which I did, but that couldn't identify the problem. I clicked on 'view detailed information', where it says that there is a problem with PnP devices. Could someone please tell me what this means and how I can fix it? Thanks.

Windows 8 isn't officially out yet, so its not actually supported at this time. What does it show up as in Device Manager?

Device Manager says Apple Mobile DeviceUSB Driver when I plug the nano in. Weird thing is my Iphone 4 works fine when plugged in. It is just the Nano that isnt working.

Likely so. The version of Windows 8 you are running now isn't the latest release anyways. You should have partitioned your hard drive so that you could continue using Windows 7 as well.

Hi,

I have a similar problem I have Windows 7 x64 and when i plug ipod touch into my laptop it says Device driver software was not successfully installed.

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling the driver, updating software of ipod and troubleshooting but still isnt working. I only bought the laptop last week so have no reason why its not working?any help would be much appreciated thanks very much!

MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT USING AN OLDER GENERATION USB CABLE. I wasted hours uninstalling iTunes, Quicktime and USB drivers. Then I switched cables and voilà, no problem. geeeeez!

Hii!! So my ipod is not connecting to itunes either. When I went to the device manager it was under portable devices. No idea why ahaha.. but I'm not sure what to do at this point. and all my music has been deleted from the ipod!! 😟 Please help mee!!

Right->click on the iPod's entry in Device Manager and choose Uninstall if possible. Then disconnect and reconnect your iPod and let Windows automatically re-install the necessary drivers.

I'm having a similar problem I've tryed 2 cords and it still charges and appears in my computer, but won't appear in iTunes and doesn't show up in Device Manager. I've tryed everything I've read so far on every forum and it just doesn't work, but it connects on my Mom's work computer just not mine. Any ideas?

Hvae you tried removing and re-installing iTunes and all other Apple software again using the exact instructions in this Apple support document. If you didn't previously follow the instructions that are in the article, give them a shot as the steps required make a difference.

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
