How do you show sender in Mail message list

Hi I've recently migrated to Lion and am finding the new layout of Mail frustrating as it shows my mail by the recipient rather than the sender. As the recipient is ususally me, I have what appears to be a inbox of emails to myself but I have to open each email (or preview it) to reveal who actually sent it to me.

Is there a way to have the sender (From field) showing in the list rather than the To field?

I need to have them sorted by Date so that the most recent messages are at the top. But when I choose View > Message Attributes the option to select "From" is already ticked but it is also greyed out.

I have temporarily fixed this by using the classic view but I would really like to know how to do this in the new view?

In the Mail message itself (right pane), you should see in the upper right corner Hide or Details. If it says Details click it and you should see what you're looking for. You can toggle between Details and Hide. But I think you're trying to get the Sender to show in the Inbox list on the left pane? All my mail messages show the Sender in BOLD in the left pane.

The default view for Inbox (and all other folders except for Sent) includes the sender on the first line in bold. It should look like the picture below. Microsoft Outlook is the sender of this message.

If your Inbox shows the recipient on the first line, something is very wrong. I don't know any setting that would cause that to happen. Just for fun, with Inbox selected, check Mailbox > Use this Mailbox For.

What do you see in the Inbox? What email service?

It seems to have solved itself. I showed my other half - also a Mail user - and it was definitely showing all my messages in the left pane with the recipient. Now it seems to have sorted itself out. I flicked back and forward from classic view to the new view and that seems to have done something.

When I search the Inbox (or any other folder) using the search widget in the upper right corner of the Mail window, each search results shows sender, date/time, subject, folder, two lines of content, and the number of messages in that thread. I am using Mail 5.2 (1278) with Exchange and Gmail.

Important: If I toggle the search to show All, results from the Sent folder still show the sender (me). Be sure you are not seeing this and assuming the sender is not being shown. Check the folder name in the search result item to make sure it is not the Sent folder.

I am finding if I perform a search of my Sent Mail, the resulting messages will only show my name (i.e. the sender's name) in the list which is absolutely useless since when I am searching my Sent Mail I want to be able to see who I sent the mail to, not who sent it (which will always be me since it's in my Sent Mail file).

Does anyone know of a fix?

Actually I think it is very inconsistent and not easily reproducible. Sometimes when you search Inbox it shows Recipient (usually me), and sometimes when you search Sent items, it shows Sender (me). I think it somehow depends on the sequence of actions you perform in Mail. Sometimes it even shows the wrong info when I browse Sent Items - not search.

Restarting Mail helps me to show the Sender when searching Inbox (typical scenario).
