Same replacement TC was tested by Apple tech and worked fine, so I bought a new ethernet cable and tried again. As before, I connected my internet cable to the TC. It took 11 hrs to begin backing up. Then, after I turned on my desk lamp, the message was "Backup failed: Make sure backup disc is on and on the same network". I tried again via "Back up now". After 12 min of "Making backup disc available", it started "Backing up".
While working, I noticed definite hanging on the opening of applications and Web browsers. Today, it's still not backed up my drive. All told, it took from May 20 to June 2 to back up 40.9 GB, or about half the drive.
I called the store and was told that the problm must lie with my computer and that it should be brought in for possible repir along with the TC.
Now, to find a kettle that lasts more than a two years, which is a whole other story. I've gone through 4 coffee grinders, two toasters, and sunrdy other small appliances in the last 4 years with all of them breaking down. I can't be alone in complaining about products that don't last like they used to. Consumers are at war with mfgs who don't care and governments who could care even less and software and computer mfgs are no less at fault with products not ready for mass consumers but that they foister upon us anyway. Just look at the postings at any hardware or software blof-come-discussion and it becomes all too obvious. I've been using the beasts for over 20 years and the matter has only grown worse.
