A million thanks. I too thought it was a bit silly. My wife fell down even though it has a real thick cover on both sides. Thin red lines were across the screen that rotated if the iPad 2 was turned. After searching the repair costs and solutions, I ran into this discussion forum. Just like you stated, a small tap on the back, slowly increasing strength and by the third tap it. Is back to normal. THANKS A BUNCH !!!

Thanks for this post! 2 year old yanked the iPad off the centre of the dining table today and the screen went black but I could see its still on. Desperate to get it to work after pressing the home and wake buttons non stop, i shook it up and down and back and forth, several seconds later, the green red fuzzy screen came on, but despite its messed up colors, it allowed me to google and read this helpful post, then I slapped it gently but it remained stubborn , so with my wrist and arm , I banged on the back of the iPad as if it was choking. A little forceful i admit, but lo and behold! It's back to its original state! Thanks a bunch! Will be careful in future. Little hands work like a ninja.

This happened to my husband too. We called the Apple store and were told that they

could not fix it. I checked out a video on youtube and hit the sides and the left bottom

corner of the IPad with a coaster six or seven times. It really worked!

my iPad dropped and it was black screen (able to check it as I have a VGA cable to connect to projector 😟). A gentle hammer fixed it!

This may seems stupid, but tapping the back of the iPad actually works for a lot of ppl.

I am so grateful for your advice. I was able to reset my ipad by pressing the Wake and Home buttons simultaneously! My whole life is on my ipad and I was sure that I would have to pay for the expensive LED repair as many people had recommended. We have no apple store for hundreds of miles! Thanks so much!

Thanks a zillion Mezorba.! I had to increase the tempo of the "slap" and as I was about giving up, IT WORKED

I hope mezorba is right, because my iPad has a black screen and I can tell if I hold down the sleep and home button that it turns off. I will reply in a few minutes with my results.

At first I thought the screen was broken because I had it jailbroken a couple days earlier XD

Well, after several smacks on the back of my iPad, the screen stays the same. Maybe it's because I am not hitting it hard enough? Although I am afraid it might break more inside of the iPad if I do this.

Mezorba you genius. Your solution of slapping the back of my iPad together with a power restart worked perfectly for me today. I just love the irony of a sophisticated piece of technology being fixed with a good smack! 🙂

Bingo. Slapping the iPad 2 gently on the back solved my problem too!

I can't believe it worked, but it did. My daughter dropped my iPad 2 from desk height on to carpet. After reading the posts, I turned the iPad over and smacked the back of it with the palm of my hand several times. Smacking it worked AND it made me feel better!😉
