MS Windows equivalent tasks/program on Mac OS

Where do I find the equivalent of Remote Desktop Connection on Mac OS X Lion? I like the feature in MS Windows where I can click on the "MS orb/All Programs" and all of my programs are there? Is there a way to customize something like this in Mac OS? I hate to go to an Application folder and launch my application that way.

There are a few ways to create connections to commonly used apps.

1) Drag the Applications folder to the Dock. Make sure to place it to the right of the solid bar next to the Trash. It will create an alias of the folder. When you click on it, the alias will open to show all items in the Applications folder.

2) If there are only certain apps you want on the Dock, open the Applications folder and drag each individual app to the Dock. Drop it anywhere you want to the left of the solid bar. You can also drag them around on the Dock after placing them there. They aren't "stuck" in their initial position.

I prefer a good FireWire drive. Make sure whatever you buy is TM capatible if you plan on using TM. I have a 1TB Lacie FireWire drive which works well with both TM and SuperDuper. I have 2 partitions - one for TM and one for SD clone. You can restore from either. I keep a clone in case my main drive fails. I can boot from it and keep going until I have time to deal with the the failure.

I've already explained the differences, so it's up to you to determine your needs. If I had to choose only one, I would go with TM for the capability of restoring files or the whole system from an earlier timeframe.

No reason not to have both if you can't live without your computer in case of a crash.

I also have a Time Capsule which also works well with TM for my wife's computer.

Whatever you decide will depend on your needs. Most important, make sure the drive works well with Macs. I don't have any knowledge of the drive you mentioned.
