Apple Mail puts a email in "DRAFTS" after I send it?

Whenever I send a email thru Apple Mail using my Gmail account, it will put the email in the DRAFTS folder. How do I keep this from happening?

I have 3 email accounts that I use in Apple Mail and the Gmail one is the only one that does this.

Had the same issue(s)

Turned off, "store drafts on the server" in Apple Mail. Its really a work around.

At least it worked for me. Solved both issues 1) sent mail going to drafts... 2) multiple draft copies created

I have this with several accounts, including a GoDaddy IMAP account (first displayed the behavior) and then it started for some of my academic EXCHANGE accounts. I also have a gmail account.

Turning off save Drafts is not acceptable as I want to be able to recover drafts when things go wrong -- I also find the current version of Mail hangs pretty often.

To whom do we complain loudly and bitterly? I always preferred Thunderbird, but it doesn't (or didn't a few years ago) play well with Exchange accounts, and I teach at CC where exchange rules.
