How do I enter a hexidecimal password on my ipad?
Can I enter a hexidecimal password on iPad to gain access to the Internet. I have already tried putting an x at the front of the character string but that didn't work.

Actually the hex escapes are $, 0x (zero + lowercase x) and 0X( zero + uppercase X), each of these tell the software that the characters that follow should be treated as a hex password. A 40-bit encrypted password is at least 10 characters long and a 128-bit password is at least 26 characters long.
These are examples;
$1234abcdef
0x1234abcdef
0X1234abcdef
$12345678901234567890abcdef
0x12345678901234567890abcdef
0X12345678901234567890abcdef
A hex password can only use the characters 0123456789ABCDEF. Don't you know what it is?
Yes, but entering in the 22 characters in groups of 4 (and a final group of 2)using numbers 0-9 and A-F doesn't work. My understanding was that the hex values had to be converted to ASCII for the iPad to understand it. Is that correct?
Where did you get the string of characters you are trying to enter?
We are renting an apartment and it is the password given by the owner for the apartment wi-fi. The owner of the apartment had no suggestions.
Do you know what form of security is being used, WEP?
Normally I think a hex password would have 26 characters. Do you really only have 22?
A hex to ascii converter is
On the ipad just go into settings, wifi ........ under "choose a network" it will show the wifi by name, you will need the name of his wifi signal. Tap on that to connect to it and it will ask you to put the password in there, enter the one he gave you.
If that dont work then check for capital letters in the password ect, if there are not any then you need to ask him if there are any capital letters.
Hint: try the first letter as capital before you go back to him
You wont need to worry about wep, wpa2 this way. Your connecting directly to it so you just need the password.
I've never had to use an escape before the hex with my iPad. Is this still a common requirement with some routers?
I only bring it up because he mentioned placing an x in front of the password in his first comment. I wanted him to know that if a hex escape was needed, one had to do it correctly.
I use WEP at home and it requires a hexadecimal password (key).
- A 64-bit WEP key is usually entered as a string of 10 hexadecimal (base 16) characters (0-9 and A-F)
- A 128-bit WEP key is usually entered as a string of 26 hexadecimal characters. 26 digits of four bits each gives 104 bits; adding the 24-bit IV produces the complete 128-bit WEP key. Most devices also allow the user to enter it as 13 ASCII characters.
I use the 64 bit since I have a legacy device that only works with that.

Good point, you are correct of course, just an x would not be right.
I appreciate all of the input that I received on my question. In getting all of the expert input I learned that 4 of the hex letters were missing as I only had 22 and needed to have 26 for 128 bit encryption. I also learned about hex escapes but in my situation, it seems to work without it. Again, thanks for all the information.
