Re attach Charts to their Table

I created a template from a laboriously constructed single chart with 4 overlay charts placed on the same axies. All work fine on the original and update correctly if the table changes or is added to.

I decided to save it as a Template for re-use.

When I start a new chart from the template all interaction between table and charts have gone. In other words, when I save as a template the conections were not copied into the Template. I have 2 questions for anyone able to help:

1) Is there something I should have done when saving the template ? It is still possible to save a new template.

2) Is there a way to re-attach the charts to the table or in a broarder sence, attach a table to an existing chart ?

I'd hate to have to reconstruct and go through the overlaying all over again.

Skip,

I suspect that you did something prior to saving as a Template, maybe something that you don't remember. Saving a document as a tamplate shouldn't change anything. The template should open up just as if you did a normal save and opened that normal document again.

Are you sure that you didn't move objects between Sheets, or delete some data so that your template would be reset to a blank state ready for new data?

Hi Jerry,

Solved the problem as to how to avoid losing the link, yes. It is not a solution. When you un-group a complex alignment it is so easy to accidentally nudge any overlays, it defeats the object of having a Group facility in the first place. Anyone opening the template doesn't know it is not grouped. I think it is a logistics bug in the software. So do the iWord team, I think. They have been in touch but, don't give much away. Can't blame them for that I suppose.

Hopefully it will be solved in any update along with the ability to create a non-updating time stamp from the system clock. Another of my pet annoyance with Numbers, so far.

Hi, Jerry

If I lock it it becomes unusable until unlocked. Same sinario as Group. It's not what the user needs to know. They just fill details in the boxes.

The object is to make it easy for the the user without presenting them with a mine field or having to have knowledge of Numbers at all.

It's the one overall Lack I am finding with Numbers; Commands, Formats and a few other instructions, are confined to circular run arounds, software wise.

Like trying to get instantanious time from the system clock without it automatically updating. You have to come out and do it by hand, then, it is no longer instantanious to other software calculations giving false information and, requires knowledge of Numbers.

You can't use formulas to create formats.

Just two aggrovations I've found.

It would be nice to be able to write simple scripts, to run when called.

Still, on the positive side, I have much to learn about Numbers. There may be alternatives.
