how much does it cost to replace a shattered screen?

I fell onto a concrete lab floor while holding my ipad and the screen shattered. It was in a full leather case which was inside a padded shoulder bag. I am sick of course and now need to have an idea of how much it cost to have it repaired. This school purchased ipad has no apple care coverage.

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:

http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/

There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty will be void.

Regards.

With a lot of patience and diligence and the right tools, you can do a self repair. Screens go for between 25 and 50 bucks on amazon. A few notes: 1. Buy a cheap heat gun 2. Make sure you order a screen for the right device (2,3 etc as they are different) 3. I recommend purchasing a screen WITH home button kit so you don't have to use the home button from the old device 4. Purchase a good repair kit with 3m stick, pry tools, screw drivers, etc 5. Watch as many YouTube videos as you can get your hands on before and during repair step by step 5. Don't drink ( caffeine or alcohol) and repair....be careful, patient, and get help holding the iPad. It isn't rocket science, but it is very sensitive and detail oriented task. And of course if you mess up in the process, you could be out more than the initial cost of repair through a warranty or company with coverage. I have done 3 at this point...and put otter boxes on them immediately afterwards as an affordable warranty:). Best of luck!

There are many different repair shops around the uk, What you have to look out for is cheap repairs.

If a company offers to do your ipad repair for around £50 you can guarentee they will be using an inferior screen.

Cheap ipad screens are made of very thin glass and or plastic. if you are buying an ipad screen to do a self repair then do your research, make sure you get a good quality ipad screen.

personally i wouldnt try to repair my ipad myself as i don't trust myself, go find yourself a reputable and trustworthy company and remember do your research on them.

in the uk i use a company called www.mobilepartshop.co.uk but you are welcome to look around and find your own trusted repair shop.
