using Mac's Mail with sbc yahoo dial up internet

How can I set up the Mail software that comes with my new Imac G5 when I have an sbcyahool dial up internet connection. Right now I'm having to connect to the internet first, and then open up sbcyahoo software etc. to go to my email. Of course I already have the email address through yahoo and I'm guessing that would have to change, but need to know what steps to take. I would like to use Mac Mail instead of yahoo mail because it gives less trouble when sending attachments such as eps files, quark files, etc. Appreciate any help I can get.

You don't need to use the software provided by SBCYahoo or that is provided by any Internet Service Provider.

You can connect to the internet via a dial-up account using Apple's Internet Connect application. After successfully connecting, you can use Apple's Safari web browser or any browser of choice.

You get the required email account setup information from SBCYahoo such as:

* Account Type: More than likely, a POP type account.
* Email Address: You already know.
* Incoming Mail Server:
* Account User Name: Usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but for some ISPs and email account providers, it is the entire email address.
* Account Password: You already know.
* Outgoing or SMTP server:
* Is the SMTP server authenticated and if so, by which method? If the SMTP server is authenticated, most authenticated SMTP servers are password authenticated by the email account's user name and password - the same used when checking the account's incoming mail server for new mail.

Once you have this information, launch Mail and go thru the email account setup process.

For SBC Yahoo dialup, you can use either your SBC account information (such as username@sbcglobal.net) or the associated yahoo account. For my SBC Yahoo, I use the following information:

Account Description: Yahoo
Full Name: <Your Name>
Email Address: <YourEmail@yahoo.com> or <YourEmail@sbcglobal.net>
User Name: <your login name>
Incoming Mail Server: pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
SSL: off
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
SSL: off

Alternately, SBC Yahoo offers an auto-setup wizard you can download and run from your desktop (for Mail or other apps).

Here is a link to download it:

You will need StuffIt Expander to unpack it, depending on the age of your Mac you are likely have that already.

Cheers.

Here's where to get the information you need to put into Mail Preferences. This is from the SBC tutorial:

Using an email client application with SBC Yahoo! Mail requires some setup within the client so that it can access the SBC Yahoo! Mail server. During setup, you can usually specify whether the client should delete downloaded email from the server immediately or leave a copy on the server.

Here's How
1. In a browser, go to your SBC Yahoo! Mail page. (Remind me how.)
2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click the Options link.

The Mail Options page appears.
3. Under the Management topic on the Mail Options page, click the POP Access and Forwarding link.
4. On the Pop Access and Forwarding page, make sure that the radio button in front of the Web & POP Access option is selected, then click the POP Settings link.

The POP Access Settings page that appears contains information about your SBC Yahoo! Mail settings. You'll need this information to configure your email client application to work with the SBC Yahoo! Mail server.

That's the basic setup, should work fine.
