Anybody using the StudioPro 3 monitors?

A review of these monitors sounded too good to be true? (Especially for the price.) Anyone using these?

I am a slow shopper. The Logitecs are in front of me as I speak...finally.

It will take some doing to get them "calibrated" to use as monitors. The bass has so much headroom I could drive my coworkers out of the office. On first listen, playing a song that I know is professionally mixed well, I was overwhelmed with the clarity of the sound. For the first time I am hearing the 3D aspect of the sound. In addition, the equalizer settings in iTunes are much more obvious. With the EQ flat on a good mix the sound is well balanced.

MyMac8My PC, These speakers are an incredible bargain and I appreciate the excellent advice. I am going to spend the next few days messing with the set up.

Yep! That'll happen when good drivers are used 🙂

It was my pleasure to help you Kurt. Speakers need to meet certain criteria to be THX certified. Your mixes will now be better because of it, so it was money well spent. Enjoy them in good health 🙂

Now comes the hard part...Getting them to behave like nearfield monitors. The bass is very powerful. Do you know why the woofer has a horn on the side? My only complaint was that there was no manual with suggestions of how to set them up, other than how to connect them.

One other item this has is a desktop remote. This is a very handy feature. You can control overall volume and bass volume without mucking around.

For my first attempt I put the woofer on the cpu shelf (bottom) on my computer desk. The sound is excellent but too bass-heavy. I'll mess with the pink noise files tomorrow and see if I can get the sound balanced by moving the woofer around the room.

I was very excited when I opened some old ProTools Free sessions on my iMac. The mixes always came out dull and the Logitecs showed me why. My use of reverb was incorrect and my pans were off. These are two things that are very hard to detect, if not impossible, using headphones only. I love working in ProTools so this might resurrect the program for me.

It's not a 'horn'. It's a rolled port for smoother bass response.

"The bass is very powerful."
I believe those are bi-amped. Move the sub away from the corner of the room.

"here was no manual with suggestions of how to set them up, other than how to connect them."
They would have no idea on what sized room, or what shapped room, they would be played in. What you're asking of Logitech is to explain how acoustics would effect them, and you'd need a very thick manual to explain that because there are soooo many variables.

This thread is so long it is going off my screen!

Success! The bass booming effect was coming from the small speakers being too close to the wall! I had the sub turned as low as possible and the bass was still in my face. Since I had the bass practically off I wondered if I was hearing something from the upper speakers, Sure enough, moving them out towards me got rid of the bass and I was actually able to turn the sub up to about 40% which many reviews of the speaker suggested. On a flat setting in iTunes professional mixes sound wonderful and in my mixes mistakes stick out like a sore thumb. I am psyched!

Interestingly, the optimal distance of the upper speakers is closer to me than I would have thought. They are actually in front of my iBook on the desk and tilted slightly inward. The sub is right below me on the cpu shelf and I removed a filing cabinet that was creating an artificial corner of the room.
