DiskWarrior..Which Rev. do I need??

Hi,

I went and bought DW 3.0.3 rev 38 this afternoon. I got home and read a few posts and am getting the feeling this may not boot my 15" 1.5ghz PB. There is an upgrade to rev 39. Alsoft couldn't tell me if it would or wouldn't only that if it doesn't it will cost me an additional $20....

So does anyone have DW 3.0.3 rev 38 (or earlier I assume) that will work on a 15" 1.5Ghz PB ser# W85373xxxxx before I open the box?

Thanks,

Warren

This is from Alsoft, "DiskWarrior 3.0.3 is now shipping on DiskWarrior CD revision 39. All PowerPC-based (non-Intel) Mac models introduced as of 10/19/2005 and meeting the requirements for DiskWarrior can be started from the CD. The new iBook models introduced on 07/26/2005, the new iMac G5 (with built-in iSight) models introduced on 10/12/2005 and the new Power Mac G5 (dual-core) and PowerBook models introduced on 10/19/2005 can be started from the current CD."

Thanks,

But how does one confirm what PB they have? Mine is a 15" 1.5 ghz which while made recently was introduced/designed much farther back.

The bummer is the store I bought it from doesn't have rev 39 so I don't have much choice. I guess I could download the update but the full functionality is gained by booting from the disc right?

If I bite the bullet to find out for sure, this is most likley a "works or doesn't work" deal..right?

Thanks All,

Warren

Thanks,

It does work. I figured it meant the newer 1.67ghz.

Odd results; My PB is about 3 months old and had 29% "misplaced files" and about a dozen other issues that DW fixed perfectly! All issues I had are resolved.

I got curious and tried it on my G4 desktop which I don't use, everyone else does. Tons of music, photos, HD 95% full of junk etc..It's seen heavy use and no maintanence in the past 4 years. 10.3.? Never an issue with performance. Anyway it only had 34% "misplaced" and about 6 other issues.

What gives? Pretty much the same programs except Photoshop CS as opposed to CS2 on the PB. But this has a teen ager and has had up to 3 teens doing lord knows what for 4 years and it was still rock solid! And only a few more issues that a basically brand new PB??!!

I know there is more to it but I'm wondering....

Thanks again,

Warren

In my experience, 10.4 installs sloppily. When I first installed it on my zeroed PB and used Migration Assistant to bring my data over from a clone, Disk Warrior hadn't been updated yet, but six weeks later I found the same thing as you. You will find similar numbers of files out of order when you create a clone, too, so use it regularly, before and after cloning as well as on the clone, and before system updates.

Good luck!
