My 13" macbook pro suddenly began running really slowly.

My macbook suddenly began running very slowly. So slowly that it became impossible to do anything. Keep in mind that this is a late 2011 model with 8gigs of (aftermarket) RAM and a dual core i7. One day it started running so slowly it wouldnt play youtube videos, it wouldnt even scroll through apps without lagging. It also got hot, REALLY hot. I tried repairing the disk and permissions. I got rid of a whole bunch of crap, I restored from a backup of before the problem yu name it, I tried it. The probem wasnt constant. After being shutdown for a long time 5-6 hours it seemed to run fine but after some time the problem came back with a vengeance. I re-installed lion and that sort of fixed the problem but I still dont get the amazing performance that I used to see and if I run something particularly intensive, like a big game, or have the browser, adobe dreamweaver and various other things up it bogs down again. The upper left corner will get burning hot. So hot ive taken to resting the computer on an icepack. Activity monitor shows nada but console under kernel spams this.

Thats about a tenth of it.

What is going wrong. Is it hardware? or did I do something stupid but hopefully fixable.

Linc,

Safe mode boot was already suggested in one of my earlier posts. It would appear the OP has not fully gone through recommended actions.

Perhaps you might make sense of the posted crash reports as they are Greek to me. From what the OP has posted it would appear the computer is running a tad hot but there is no reason for it to do so normally, yet nothing appears locked up in Activity Monitor.

The crash log for storeagent is unrevealing. The other one shows that a couple of third-party QuickTime components were loaded, but I can't say whether they contributed to the crash.

I missed the fact that you had suggested a safe boot. I think it's the next logical step.

I concur. I actually thought it should have been the next step after resetting the SMC did nothing to help. 🙂

For me it was a tiny CPU monitoring program called CPULed 1.3 that cause the system log to generate messages like this...
