Firmware Password on MacBook Pro 2011 (10.6.8 Intel)

Hello,

Please read this entire post before commenting below.

I am requiring access of the boot selector menu on my MacBook Pro.

Whenever I try and get to the menu, the firmware password box shows up. I am trying to change / remove said password.

My MacBook was bought under a bulk deal with 300 others, and each one contains the same firmware password.

I do not know the firmware password, and I am unable to open up my computer and add / remove any RAM.

I do not have access to the boot CD either.

Please do help me out on this issue.

I am entirely certain that removing / replacing the firmware password is possible without opening the computer / using the boot CD, as I have seen a colleague gain access to the menu without doing either.

Well then it looks like you are SOL.

Shootist007,

I don't see how I can be SOL if another one of my colleagues can do it.

And I am 100% certain that he did not open his computer and reset the PRAM.

If it makes it any better, I do have access to root.

Then kindly ask him to do it for you, whatever he did. Really if you knew this already, that a colleague did it, why didn't you ask him in the first place instead of coming here.

I am absolutely certain that it is not the only solution.

If my colleague could do it without resetting PRAM, going to a Genius bar or using a boot CD, then it would definitely be possible for me to do the same.

It very well might be, I have never attempted it nor would I ever need to (I don't set firmware passwords and if I did I don't forget them). But as stated very early in this thread No One Here Will Help You.
