My iPhone doesn't always ring, why?

I've had my iPhone 4S since it's introduction, I love it, except it doesn't always ring when I get a call. Yes, Airplane mode is off, the ringer is on. Take yesterday for instance, over a period of 5 hours, four calls didn't ring, 3 went to VoiceMail, one showed as a missed call, three other calls came through normally. During this entire time the phone was sitting on my desk, fully charged.

Has anyone else had this problem?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

I know this sounds obvious but always try the simple stuff first. Toggle the physical mute button on the side of your phone. Some people, like me, accidentally mute our phones and don't realize it. Even if you phone's mute is is not on (muted), toggling it may help. I've experienced similar issues with the iPad. In fact, turning any service off and then back on is a good first step when that service is not working.

I hope this helps.

I've had this problem too since iOS 6. I regularly get missed calls but the phone doesn't ring. Then I get a text message saying someone tried calling. This happens even when I'm sat next to them with full bars of service. I have just switched off 3G and roaming data. Since then - no missed calls. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Software problem I think.

Update on my particular case, though YMMV, of course. I did all of the resets noted in my previous message, and then I discovered a day or so later that I was still missing calls. I called Apple tech support and spoke with a very nice fellow who suggested that I'd done all of the things (including a restore to factory settings I'd done earlier) they'd have advised and that perhaps this was a problem with a defective SIM card. I went to the AT&T store and easily had my SIM card replaced, but that didn't do it, either. Acting on advice from the Apple tech I had spoken with, I then made an appointment at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. Five minutes after I'd arrived for my appointment, I walked out with a brand-new iPhone. So far, so good! I haven't had any reports of people being unable to reach my iPhone, though it's only been a few days. 🙂 One further note: I did set up this new iPhone as new, rather than restoring it from a backup; I didn't want to take any chances.

My iphone does not always rings. I just realized since I had a phone interview today at 3:00pm. I waited 30minutes before with the phone in front of my face, and 2:51pm, there was a call from another person, I picked. Then I waited and waited, until 3:12pm, I thought something went wrong. There were missed calls and a voice messege displayed on my screen at 3:00pm. The phone never ring!!!!!!!!!!!

I Just missed a phone interview! OMG!

Could you give me a solution to solve this problem?????

There seems to be no clear answer for this continuing problem. I've talked to Apple, and while they've been attentive they haven't solved the problem. They suggested that the problem was a weak signal. I've talked to my carrier (Verizon) they seemed disinterested except for trying to sell me a $300 signal enhancer for my home. They poiinted fingers back to Apple. I would accept it as a signal problem except my wife has a non-Apple cheapo phone on the same network and her phone never fails to ring. My son and my daughterinlaw both have iPhones and experience the same problem on another carrier (AT&T)

It's very disconcerting to know you can't depend on your phone to ring, yet you get notice of a missed call and even VM. It just doesn't make sense.

If you find an answer please let us know!
