My iPhone doesn't always ring, why?

Jack, I went through the same problem on AT&T. Apple replaced my iPhone 5 three times, I reset it back to factory settings a couple of times, and I can't remember all the other things I tried. However, it finally did come down to a reception problem in my home, which was the only place I was not receiving my calls. AT&T worked out a "deal" for me where I now have a microcell in my home and haven't missed any calls since getting it. The microcell was fairly expensive, but most of the cost of it was offset when they gave me a monthly discount for the next year and charged me the refurbished price for a new microcell. They were really very cooperative about the whole thing.

I was getting frustrated with this issue as well. While messing around with my phone settings, I noticed that at some unknown point, I inadvertently enabled 'Do Not Disturb'. My problems went away once I disabled this feature.

Sometimes it's the simple things that will get you. I hope this helps someone out there ~

Got this from another site, but this is what was wrong with my iP5!!:

"1) If you look at the left side of the iPhone 5, you will see an indentation with a thin switch, and the two round volume buttons. If that switch is pushed to the back of the phone, an orange line will appear. That puts your phone on silent. Flipped to the front of the phone, it just looks black, and the phone is not on silent. We just realised that this is what happened to ours; it must've gotten flipped while in pocket.

2) The kicker is that when the silent button is on, there is no indication on the screen. No icon with the little bell with a slash through it; nothing to tell you that the phone has actually been put on silent. Not the best innovation. You will see the little slashed bell pop up when you turn the phone onto silent, but then it disappears, giving no clue why your phone that can find answers to all questions in the googleverse won't ring when you get a call."

Thanks you so much - this was exactly the problem with mine. I had been messing about in my settings a few weeks ago and had left 'Do Not Disturb' on. I wondered what the little moon icon beside the time was. I was so annoyed and frustrated as I'm a doctor and need my phone for on calls! Brilliant.

I would be very surprised and very disappointed if Apple did not read these posts.

I too have the same problem with Verizon and my second new iPhone 5. I talked them into a new phone even though 30 days had passed. During the entire time with both phones, I have received maybe 20% of my calls. If you look at this topic, there have been over 30,000 views, yet it doesn't appear that anyone is trying to fix this problem. When go to the local Verizon store, they blame it on everything but the phone. I can sit at my desk and call from my land line, and still get no answer. Two rings and straight to voicemail. If I could turn back the clock, I would certainly be using a Samsung phone or something other than the iPhone. The thrill is gone. I certainly hope someone will address this problem. I am very surprised that Apple and Verizon let this linger. With all the suggestions, I have found none to work, and I have tried them all. Let's keep trying to get some attention. I'm sure Steve would not be happy. Later.

I am having this same issue. Yes it is very frustrating. I am very curious to know if the new 5s will do this also. I absolutely hate droid and can't imagine giving up my iphone, but what good is it if it will not ring. I have replace the SIM card three times and I am on my 1st replacement. Problem is I had this phone since Nov 2012 and it work great until April 2013. When im at my office is when it happensand it mostly happens with my husband. He has a Casio Commando 3G phone and has no problem getting calls sitting right next to me. Now it seems know matter where I go I only have two to three bars where I used to have four or five. Please let me know how the 5S turns out.
