Embedded video Keynote iPad

Hey Gang, I have an embedded video on a keynote09 presentation. It works as desired on the mac, start, pause, and end controls are avalaible. However when we move it to the iPads, basically have only the ability to start and end the video. Does anyone know how to include start and pause functions for the ipad presentation? Thanks -timBER

Currently iPad Keynote has limitations. There is no video pause while playing a video in Keynote from an iOS device as you are discovering.

One workaround is to split your video into parts - this requires you to know where in the video you wish to stop and discuss something. Placing the video in the same location and with the same background on the next slide gives the appearance of a pause. You could also add a covering shape to either dissolve away to reveal the video or a shape to fade in to cover the video. What you audience sees is a fade out or fade in at your break point.

Another, albiet less graceful, way to pause the video is to have the video play externally from Keynote - an example would be to hyperlink to a YouTube URL - that would transport you to YouTube, but you see the whole underpinnings of the web-site. The video in YouTube starts out in reduced size and needs to be expanded but it can be paused. Getting back is also less than graceful - you have to double click the home button to reveal the Keynote icon and tap on it to return to where you were. This setup requires the ability to mirror and is an ugly duck, but works when the message is more important than the magic.

There have been reports of third party remotes that have a pause feature, but they are reportedly hit and miss. Unless you really wish to throw money at a lame horse, this solution doesn't seem ready for prime time.

If, as many others before you, you wish that Apple would add this feature to Keynote for iOS and their partner app Keynote Remote, you can give them some feedback here:

Good Luck.
