Do you have restrictions set up on the iPod that prevents you from being able to install apps? To check, head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions.
Are you syncing the iPod with the same iTunes library you normally sync it with?
Perhaps this article can be of more assistance.

In the settings tab I don't have a restrictions option and music always works but never apps.
Did you see the article I referenced above to make sure apps are configured to sync to your device?
What about my question as to whether or not you are syncing the iPod with the same iTunes library as you normally do?
I was referring to the Settings app on your device, not in iTunes.

I went to the article and when I'm at my itunes there isn't even a tab at the top that is labeled apps with the music, video, podcasts, pictures, etc. It is only listed to the left. I always sync my iPod to the same library, it's never been synced with a different one. I dont even know how to access apps on my iPod without going to the iTunes store but I cant access that either because the wi-fi isn't working.
What version of iOS is running on your system? To check head to Settings -> General -> About on your iPod Touch.
Did you check restrictions via Settings -> General -> Restrictions on your iPod Touch?

Check what version of iOS. To check head to Settings -> General -> About on your iPod Touch.
Again, the Restrictions section is under Settings on your iPod Touch.

Aha! 🙂 The ability to download and install additional third party apps from Apple's App Store was not added until iOS 3.1.3. It sounds like you have a 1G iPod Touch, which can be updated as high as iOS 3.1.3. See this article about purchasing the update.

Thank you for all of your help with this!
No problem. Best of luck with the update!

So I purchased the software update and downloaded/installed it but now my iPod isnt working...It only shows the Apple symbol with the loading bar and a dark background. I tried to unplug it and let the battery run out then try again and I still get no where.
Any suggestions??? I could really use some help here.
You need to connect it to iTunes and restore it as it seems like something went wrong with the download and update process.
