Reboot the computer holding the option key down, wait for the boot drive options to appear, then press the eject key on the keyboard.

When it's out, then select your boot drive and click the arrow key to boot up.

Thanks Tubapig! This worked for me! 🙂🙂 This was the first time in years that I even used the CD/DVD slot, so I'm not too concerned, but still didn't want a No Doubt CD in there winding up and starting up iTunes every time I used my computer.

"The slot was a little narrowed towards the middle due to the case warping a bit.

I inserted a screw driver into the slot just a millimeter, and twisted it to open the slot wider just a bit.

Kept it in place while ejecting the DVD. That worked."

the case is slightly bowed over the battery compartment

When the metal surrounding the drive gets a little bent as well, that is when the discs get stuck. The guys at the genius bar see this so often, they have made some tools to remove modest bends without opening your Mac.

When the bend is pronounced, they open your MacBook and bend the metal back with it open, then re-assemble and you are good to go. No parts used? No charge!

jacksonbrookessharp had the best answer yet: "I know you already had your problem answered, but this other trick worked when all the others failed. When ejecting the CD, I would tilt my macbook sideways so the CD drive was angled down at a slant while pressing my fingers up against the bottom of my mac and into the CD drive, which would push the CD out. Hopefully this works as an alternative method and it helps somebody out."

When I tried this - pushed up the bottom under the drive during eject command - the jam loosened and the CD started to exit enough fo rme to grab it.

Yay!

Hello Kristin,

I was schedule for a Genius Bar visit at our local Apple store. Unfortunately, I missed the appointment. Due to my technology background, I took matters into my own hands. I found that the felt/velvet shielding cover caused the disk to now eject properly. This has been a recurrent problem for multiple Macbook Pro users. If you know the drive is actively working, use a BIC pen top and gently perferate the entry of the CD drive on your right hand side. At some points, the CDs will get stuck due to not using the drive as often. I am glad that I was able to save time and gas. My computer is fixed. No Genius Bar needed. I just used my perception of common sense and it worked. I hope this work for you.
