Lion Won't Wake For Incoming Network Access

Hello, All:

After Lion upgrade I cannot get my remote access program (Timbuktu) to show my desktop to remote users. The sleeping screen (not the hard drive) is set for "Wake for network access" and all other settings are checked and appropriate including an update to the newest Timbuktu 8.8.3.

The screen wakes from keyboard or trackball activity but not for incoming access.

Note: The remote user sees the frame for the desktop in Timbuktu but is shows a sleeping (dark) screen. The file and clipboard exchanges still work but the screen ignores the instruction to wake.

Access worked perfectly with Timbuktu until three weeks ago. Then it just sleeps like a teenager on Saturday morning unless tapped on the shoulder by a parent. Call-ins don't get answered. ;-)

Any ideas would be dearly appreciated.

Thanks

The LogMeIn workaround (logging in with that program and then jumping to Timbuktu) is a fairly trouble-free way around. In fact, in many instances, even though LogMeIn isn't as elegant an interface as T2, it works for the "quickie" visit.

I think the longer Motorola takes in solving, rather than addressing this issue, the more people like me will just migrate permanently away from T2.

It would be nice to have a posting here from Motorola commenting on the progress (or lack of) their efforts if they want to keep customers like me in the fold.

Thank you for all your postings above. Needless to say, I have the same issue: unable to wake up desktop iMac for remote control access via Timbuktu Pro. At least I know that others have experienced the same problem and hope that Motorla will fix on next update. I am a long time user of T2 (8 years) and somewhat disappointed that Motorla has not paid much attention to their gifted stepchild. I will much appreciate if anyone lets us know when this is fixed. I'll keep track of this thread.

Just to update everyone, we have just finished a release that fixes this "can't wake a sleeping display" issue and it should be on our web site for download within a few weeks.

If you just can't wait, drop me a line at msilverman (at) motorola.com and I can send you a direct download link.

We're also always looking for Timbuktu users to join our beta program, so if that interests you, let me know as well.

Thank you for your patience and for continuing ot use Timbuktu!

🙂 Fixed for 8.8.3 and earlier in Mountain Lion (sort of) for secure connections.

Add this line to ~/.ssh/rc

caffeinate -u date > ~/last-ssh.txt

Secure Timbuktu Pro connections ride on ssh connections. Adding this command to ~/.ssh/rc on the target account for the incoming connection wakes the screen. A side effect is is a note of the last ssh access to that account. See the man files for more information.
