Mac OS X 10.7.4 Mail keeps asking my password?

I'm having a hard time with this. My Yahoo! mail keeps asking for my password when I know I type it in correctly. I check the box where it says "Remember my password in keychain". Here is what I have done to solve it:

Reset / repair keychain in keychain preferences.

Reinstall Mac OS X Lion

Reformatted my SSD and put Lion on again.

Tried deleting the com.apple.mail.plist in ~/Library/Preferences

To no avail, it still keeps asking for my password. Keychain must have become corrupted as far as my Yahoo! mail is concerned.

Here is the specs on my computer: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4, 120 GB Intel SSD in Bay 1 (OS HD) and 500 GB WD Scorpio Blue (Data HDD) + 8 GB RAM. I have my account linked up to my 500 GB WD Data HDD and not my SSD. I am sure it has something to do with that, I am just not sure how to fix it.

If anyone can give me any suggestions, that would be great.

I dont know how long this repair will last but here's how I fixed this problem on my iMac.

  1. Using the Apple Mail client I selected Mail ->Preferences from the menu bar.
  2. Select the account you want to remove and click the minus button to removed account.
  3. Using Safari I logged into my Yahoo email account.
  4. On the webmail client I clicked on my username at the top left and selected Yahoo Account Info.
  5. My session was redirected to an AT&T/Yahoo login screen where I entered my current Yahoo email password.
  6. On the next page I selected "Manage passwords and security" from the "Sign-In and Security" section.
  7. Yahoo detected that my isp is AT&T so my session was redirected to a "myAT&T" page.
  8. On the AT&T page I changed the password for my AT&T/Yahoo email account.
  9. Back on the Apple Email client select Mail -> Preferences
  10. On the prefrences popup select Acounts.
  11. Clicking the plus sign to create a new account
  12. Enter your email address and password and click continue.

If everything went as planned you should have a new Online email account.

I solved this by logging into the mail.yahoo.com webite with safari. I was asked to verify as it was my first access from a new device (according to yahoo) but once logged in my iMail issue went away.

I suspect there is not a single cause of the issues listed by users here but it does seem like yahoo periodically has a security hiccup with iMail which causes this issue.

It happened again this morning, Checked my email before going to bed last night and this morning I cannot get email from Yahoo mail.

So, I downloaded Thunderbird and added my Yahoo mail account info and it worked but the apple email client still fails get my email.

I did notice that Thunderbird is using these servers "incoming.att.net" and "outgoing.att.net" but Apple email is using different servers "imap.mail.yahoo.com" and "Bellsouth.net". So I changed Apple mail client t use the same servers as Thunderbird but no luck. It still would not work. So I dropped the account and recreated it and now it works.

Is the solution as simple as just using Thunderbird?

LOTS AND LOTS of responses and NONE works at least for me.

I have deleted and attempted to re-install my mail program for my two email addresses to no avail.

It gets stuck at my freakin' (and you know the word I'm wanting to use) password EVERY freakin' time!!

I went to install Mozilla's Thunderbird and EVEN THAT stopped at password when I tried to access my account!!

This is BEYOND maddening!!

I was having this problems for weeks. Now it seems to be solved.

At home I have a Macbook Air and a Galaxy S3 connected via WIFI.

With Mail opened I decided to go to Yahoo Mail website using Safari on my laptop and I realised I was already logged on.

So I logged off and immediately the mail app on my phone asked for Yahoo Mail password. I inserted the correct password and hit ok.

Mail stopped asking for password.

Problems solved !

Can't believe it was so easy.

I tried you suggestion to change the port number. That certainly DID NOT WORK. Couldn't connect. it has been awhile that I was asked for my password constantly. Then last week or so yahoo would not stop asking me, now cloud will not stop asking me. This is ridiculous. I'm really tired of constantly putting in my password to constantly have to redo it. It is a Pain in the you know what to change my passwords for each of my accounts.

I have this problem with my Yahoo account and Mail too. It is always with Yahoo. Never with my gmail account.

That tells me, even if it was Mail's fault, that Yahoo could fix it on their end if they wanted to.

I deleted all my yahoo.com keychains to see if that does anything.

But I am at the point where I think I am just going to delete my Yahoo account permanently from Mail. And just check it via the web. I don't use it much anyway. Mostly have it around for legacy and nostalgia purposes.

I've posted here a couple of times and like many of you tried everything. It always appears to be working well then, outta the blue it starts again. I thought I had th problem solved and now for the last 3days I get the prompt every 5minutes or so. Seriously is no one at either Apple or Yahoo addressing this?
