Mac OS X 10.7.4 Mail keeps asking my password?

I'm having a hard time with this. My Yahoo! mail keeps asking for my password when I know I type it in correctly. I check the box where it says "Remember my password in keychain". Here is what I have done to solve it:

Reset / repair keychain in keychain preferences.

Reinstall Mac OS X Lion

Reformatted my SSD and put Lion on again.

Tried deleting the com.apple.mail.plist in ~/Library/Preferences

To no avail, it still keeps asking for my password. Keychain must have become corrupted as far as my Yahoo! mail is concerned.

Here is the specs on my computer: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4, 120 GB Intel SSD in Bay 1 (OS HD) and 500 GB WD Scorpio Blue (Data HDD) + 8 GB RAM. I have my account linked up to my 500 GB WD Data HDD and not my SSD. I am sure it has something to do with that, I am just not sure how to fix it.

If anyone can give me any suggestions, that would be great.

I am having the same issue with the att/yahoo mail. Is there a solution to this? I did spend 45 minutes on the phone with ATT who told me it was only a problem with Apple products, as I can not get my mail on my iPhone either. I did erase the accounts are recreate them, to which they worked once. This is so frustrating. I think that yahoo is not wanting people to use Apple products. But if you have found a solution, I would greatly appreciate the help. thank you.

I went in to yahoo and (it is the worse place to navigate around) finally found a way to reset my password. I set it to the same one I had. So far in a few days I have not gotten the error message to give them a password.

However, I cannot get mail out to any of my yahoo groups. I reset the mail box I wrote the people in charge of each group and received no answers from them. I am so frustrated with YAHOO I cannot begin to tell you. It's one reason I don't use it for my mail mailboxes. I use it for Groups because I thought it was more convenient but it has been nothing but a royal pain. The worse part is I want to talk to a real person at yahoo and I can't find one. There are help pages by third party people and they charge for their help. I am not going to pay them for that.

Same problem - read this thread and a number of others on the same topic - tried all of the fixes without success - so switched to Mozilla Thunderbird - and not a problem since - clearly a software/OS problem for Apple.

I agree that Apple is not attending to reported problems - as if they don't give a **** - assuming that their history of loyal customers is enough - be careful Apple - your success if not ensured without maintaining top products, and more sore, attentive customer service.

Wow. So... I did a quick web search this morning, because like so many of you my Apple mail app was acting up and it kept asking for my AOL password. I tried a couple of the helpful suggestions here, and none of them worked (at first)... but it took me a while to get at something that WOULD eventually (so far) solve my issue because I had to wade through 5 pages-worth of nerdrage, irrational (and misplaced) Apple hate, and paragraph-long diatribes swearing blood vengeance upon the ghost of Steve Jobs and everything that he hath wrought on Earth.

Anyhow. Before I risk becoming what I decry, here is what worked for me: I logged into my AOL mail from my browser. (and, if this helps: I had an AIM screenname auto-logged in, which I signed out of before signing into my proper AOL screenname) Then, I logged out.

Now, so far, mail app is no longer asking me to verify my password. Which probably means that this was not, after all, a mail app issue (which I sort of knew right from the start, since I was only having the issue with one account). But this does appear to have fixed my problem, so I thought I would share.

It may well be that this doesn't solve everyone's problem. That could just be because my problem wasn't identical to yours or anyone else's. Allow me to make one final plea: this isn't a forum for ranting about Apple. This is a troubleshooting forum. I came here looking for help, not to hear how much you hate Apple for all of the horrible things they have done to you and your family.

After reading many, many discussions on this topic, and trying nearly every suggestion, this one worked for me. It's quite simple, though I resisted doing it for some time, for some reason...

1. Go to Keychain Access.

2. Open Preferences.

3. Under "General," click on "Reset My Default Keychain."

I have had no problems since doing this about 4 months ago.

I should note that this also solved an additional problem of periodically being blocked from accessing any web pages at my University. Mail was repeatedly trying to authenticate on the smtp server, so frequently that it triggered the "block access from this IP" defense against hacking.

I hope this helps.

I had similar problems after I had updated my yahoo password, plus iPhoto would not send an email through yahoo. It appeared that the iMac had an incorrect password somewhere.

The cure was to go to Keychain Access and look for all yahoo password items under both login and Local Items. There were several entries, some with the old password and some with the new. The old ones had a Date Modified before the date of my password change.

I inspected the items by selecting each one and then used command-I to see and then modify the password. Once all the password entries were updated, I restarted iPhoto and the email worked.

Mail keeps "losing" my passwords for the various email accounts I have. I have had no problems with mail since ditching Outlook (which erased identities after one glorious Microsoft update) after it had put me out of business for 3 days, essentially. This week, I began getting "enter password" message over and over again. I finally quit doing it and quit Mail, restarted and entered passwords into all of my accounts again. Worked for a day.

This a.m. I have no passwords again. Every time I enter it, it disappears when I go to the next account, even tho' when prompted, I Save. This is bizarre! And evidently, a long-time issue with the client, which Apple is completely ignoring.

I do not have a yahoo or an AOL account. My mail accounts are through my hosted domain, gmail and an office.365 exchange server.

None of the "solutions" proposed in this thread have worked so far. This is extremely annoying as I run my business through emails, being a remote home office. How the heck can this be fixed?

Same problem, Mail repeatedly asking for password and despite trying different repairs etc problem returns. I think I'm correct in saying the problem has only existed since adding an iPad and iPhone to mail (certainly wasn't a problem when I used a Blackberry). I've found that if I open my mail (BTYahoo) on the web the problem goes away, but whats the point of having web mail constantly open in order to access Mail on my iMac?

OMG--I think I found the solution by accident--I hope!!!

I opened "KeyChain Access and searched "imap.aol.com" and low and behold I had an expired security certificate that I first tried to replace, but it needed a URL to go to, so Instead, "trusted" the expired certificate and POOF! it works!!!!

I had the same problem on my macbook air and it's working too!!!
