My Macbook pro's charger turn on and off, how do I fix this?

Hey Guys,

My Macbook Pro's charger when I plug it in turns on(green light then orange light) and after a few seconds it turns off and back on again, it's very frustrating! I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in after several seconds and I also tried different power outlets but it still doesn't work properly, I even tried restarting the SMC(Not sure if I did it right though). What could be the cause and How do I fix it?

I have a Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 model running Intel Dual Core i5 Processor.

Thank you!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

What does the battery icon on the menu bar show?

I have a power adapter that some times does not show the light, but the icon will reflect what is actually happening, thus I don't become concerned.

Some time a few snaps or jiggles of the connector will solve the situation. You may also check if the connections on the power adapter and the MBP are clean.

If it is not charging, a trip to the Apple store is recommended, especially if your warranty is still in effect.

Ciao.

SOLUTION!

I had the same problem with my MacBook Pro Late '11. My problem started when my power adapter started to show wire (where the adapter and the cord that goes into the computer meet up) and wouldn't charge (no light), so I had to get a replacement from my neighborhood Best Buy. I bought the 85w and had the same problem you had and after a long ordeal of trying to figure out the problem, took it up to the Apple Genius Bar (thinking it was an internal problem). After a full diagnostic and finding nothing wrong with the computer hardware (past my warranty date), they recommended (as a last resort) to trade out my adapter with one of their's (for free). No charging problem ever since. Hope this helps!

Cheers!

The data as shown suggests that the battery is good but not fully charged but being charged. Monitor this to see if you can get it to charge to 100%. If the during the charging cycle it becomes intermittent, then you will have take the MBP and power adapter to the nearest Apple store or repair facility for a proper diagnosis

I would suspect the Power adapter based on this:

I am having the same problem! I recently bought a late 2011 13 inch macbook pro used. The battery will eventually charge to full and keep a good charge when unpaged, but when charging the battery icon cuts on and off, so it stops and starts and stops and starts.. very intermittent. I will also see the light on the charger going on and off.. Now, one thing different with me is that I have a replacement charger. I did not get the original Apple charger with the pre-owned Macbook Pro. I am wondering if anyone replaced their charger and the issue resolved or did they have to do any other kind of repair?

Thanks,

Paul 😕
