open letter, Apple MBP disapointing...

Hi, I'd like to post an open letter here. I was a big PC fan in the 90 then beginning 2000 when apple decided to switch to mac os X, I started looking at the apple computer. I was still a student and spend what was a lot of money in a brand new iBook G4 800. Since I've spend more and more money on Apple computer and I must admit I'm less and less enthousiast about the quality of the product 😟 (I'm not even taking about iPod/price/accessories but this is another story)..

So I spend $2000 in a brand new PB 1.33 -> I got bad pixel I spend 3 days fighting with Apple for dinally ask a local resseller to get my computer back. Then I switch to a 1.5 PB SD but here again bad news, a buzz when AC plug, nothing to do with Apple : " it's supportable" they said !!! So I spend 2 years switching between battery and AC for having the less whinnin sound ... So last month I spend 2000$ again in a brand new MBP telling me: nice I won't have this horrible sound when using my laptop BUT ...
I get a buzz when th AC is in AND a buzz considering the brightness of the screen AND the harddrive 5400tr/mn make more noise !!!! What the **** is going on ? It's not like I was being a 1300$ DELL machine here ! I spend lots of monety because I expect Apple to deliver great products but here I'm very disapointed by the quality of the product 😟... plastics, keyboard etc are good but all those noise coming from screen, HP, AC, harddrive guys do something !!!!

Hey...it's not just the MBP that has issues. Look at the iBooks. Flaming power supplies...bad logic boards...light leaks from the screen edges...keyboards that fall apart...and I've yet to see any Mac lapburner without a warped top... And these ain't cheap computers. Oh and did I mention the skimpy one year warranty? Sometimes it seems like a pretty stiff price to pay just to not have to run windoze...

They helped, certainly. Apple is notorious for protecting their OS, so while they won't mind if Windows runs on a Mac they have gone to considerable lengths to insure that OS X will NOT run on a PC, so the motherboards could not be the same. Also small differences: the Acer has a four-pin FireWire port (unpowered) while Apple provides a six-pin. Acer has 4 USB ports, MBP only 2, and so on.

Before some bright bulb reminds me of reports of the early developer's version of MacIntels being hacked to run Windows let me point out those reports have died out since the Golden Master Intel OS X Tiger versions came out.

Hi,
I just wanted to apology for all that noise that came out of this thread. It seems my post has bother lots of you here. My point was not at all to discouraged the work people are doing here by answering to many post. As my subject said, I was trying to edit an open letter. I now understand It was not the right place. Therefore my message should have look like :
"Hi, As I'm experiencing trouble with my mac book pro : specially noise emission. I wonder how, except from calling applecare where they say 'it's an acceptable noise", can I fetch or try to fetch Apple trhrough an open letter or more ? This not to raise a polemic or say Apple *****, but just to let Apple know that people are also sensible to product quality not only through their nice Oses, nice style but also through its ability to integrate high frequency and performance solution into silent laptop.
"
This way may have been more polite an respectfull (dispite my english mistakes which is not my native language) to people around trying to have constructive approach to user forum support.

I'd like to thanks iFelix for the link and Peter Moyer for its kind answer toward a beginner on Apple forum.

I agree...I love Apple & I love my MBP. But as I posted in another thread, I called A.C. about the screen noise just to get their response & they said "it is in the acceptable level". I am wondering about all of the people who have posted that this is an inverter problem & have sent their's back for repair. I can live with the noise, because I like it full brightness anyway, but I am worried that the inverter might cause other problems. Oh well.

I would return it asap. There must be a quiet place somewhere in the store so the genius can listen to it if he/she doesn't know what you mean. The longer you wait may not be beneficial to you.

The fact that some of us don't have this problem dictates that it is a defect and Apple will take care of it. I have tried to reproduce the noise by adjusting the screen and unplugging the ac; I cannot hear it.

Hey, Peter, I agree with your sentiment but not your language. Everybody on these boards seems to be getting pretty cranky - don't know if it's the waiting for MBPs to ship or all the whining when they arrive, but the frustration level seems higher than healthy. Maybe wait for a more serious infraction next time before unleashing the "M" word? Just a thought...

I contacted apple today re the buzzing and reluctantly agreed to return it for replacement......it is exactly 14 days since delivery, so OK to do so.

Like an earlier poster I generally have mine on full brightness, and mains power so generallly don't hear it. But it is a pretty substantial sound otherwise and I can imagine it distracting my coaching clients in a quiet environment.

But 2 weeks on, overall this is one fantastic machine and a wonderful first mac. Those of you waiting, do not worry. IMHO the machine is just a smidgin short of perfect.
