Embed YouTube Videos in iBooks Author So Internet Connection Unnecessary???

I submited my iBooks Author app created book to Apple a couple of days ago and received this ticket message today:

"Please embed all YouTube videos directly in the book file. Do not have them linked so that they require an internet connection."

I had no idea videos need to be playable even when an internet connection is not available. How do I do this?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Luis225

I have read the exchange about YouTube being required as an embed video rather than as a widget.

I have just published my first book and this book contains hyperlinks to my website it could have been to Wikipedia or anyone else for that matter. For these to work you would need to have a network connection. iBook Connect imposed no prohibition on this arrangement and approved the book for distribution.

They can however reject the publication the basis that it contain a link with a competiting website 'another bookstore for example'

What I have not tested but might work and that is you create a hyperlink that takes the user to a webpage under your control which has an embedded link to the YouTube Video. In this relationship because you have dropped out of the iBook you are actually in Safari browser in effect working no differently to any desktop.

My understanding is that YouTube will allow you to embed the code into a unrelated website for the purpose of accessing a YouTube Video they even have a process that generates the short link which you can cut an paste and create they hyperlink on the webpage.

The iBook hyperlink takes the user to the webpage and when they tap on the webpage link they are taken to YouTube where they can play the video

The downside to this is you have to close the iPad browser tap on iBooks and you are taken back to the book.

Personally I have yet to create a browser widget that actually works whilst leaving you in iBooks.

Comments about this post would be appreciated.. Ant..
