How to turn off iMessage without iOS device

Hi community,

sadly enough my iPhone got stolen, but when my friends message me their phones keep trying to send me iMessages. Obviously my friends have checked that their phones won't send normal SMS when I'm not available on iMessage, so I end up receiving nothing until they manually say "Send via SMS".

For I won't have an iPhone within the next months I want iMessage to be turned off, so I will get normal SMS from my lucky iPhone friends.

Anyone got an idea?

Is it possible to "unlink" iMessage from my phonenumber / mailadress?

Thanks for your help.

If you registered your phone with Apple, try unregistering it:

  1. Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
  2. Log in if not already logged in.
  3. Click on ">" to the right of the phone listing
  4. Click "unregister"

The first solution provided by wjosten worked for me.

"1. Put your sim card(which I know you don't have) into another iPhone & turn iMessage off"

--> I used the new sim card that my telecom provider sent me (i kept the same phone number), I inserted it in another iPhone and turned iMessage off. Now I receive all messages sent from my contacts again.

Many thanks!

Because I am neither an accomplished IT professional nor highly skilled in this area, I am passionate about getting the correct answer for my IT problems. This response reminds me of those I most often receive from the most accomplished of IT professionals. The correct course of action in this precise situation is for the user to unregister the device. At the time of the request, the user did not have an iOS device and exhibited no concern that messages were being sent to a stolen phone. The problem was that Apple's database still associated that contact information with an iOS device. If this user was finally able to replace the stolen iPhone, registering a new iOS device with Apple seamlessly restored iMessaging to the new device, and the user's expressed preference for Apple products indicates that other devices may have shared the associated Apple ID. There was really no need to inconvenience this user any more by changing the password. Either way, helping Apple keep the database free from incorrect information by unregistering the device was good for Apple, good for Apple Users, good for America. The best possible solution was provided by randers4 who exhibited a rare skill, paying careful attention to the user's concerns and offering the simplest and most complete resolution for the problem. Context is critical for understanding the correct solution to common technical issues.

Unfortunately this is a huge issue. I went from a 5s to an android device and of course had the same problem. I went through all the steps of wiping my phone, deregistering it from my account as well as turning iMessage off on all my other devices. The only thing that worked was turning my 5s back on and turning iMessage off. I know this doesn't help if your phone is no longer available but hopefully someone at Apple will realize this is a problem.
